The Tale of the Good Sapiens
Describe a fable that helped shape a culture in your world.
Summary
Once upon a time, in a small magical village, there lived an elderly Sapiens man. He had begun as a kind young Sapiens, divining with the dead for every person who called. But as time went on, his health failed and he was not able to speak with every spirit who called. Slowly, he began to turn away many of the people who visited with him. A few years into his new policy, a man died two towns away from the elderly Sapiens. Brushing it off as a normal occurrence, the Sapiens kept turning all of the petitioners away. However, two months after the man's death, his grieving widow showed up at the Sapiens' door, begging for one final audience with the man. The man refused, believing that he would lose too much power if he tried. Undeterred by the Sapiens' refusal, the widow and her children showed up three more times. On the widow's fourth turn, the Sapiens saw that the woman was sincere about her desire to see her husband once more. Using his last bit of energy, the Sapiens summoned the woman's husband into a corporeal spirit. The woman and her husband reconciled and the Sapiens died that day on a positive note.
Historical Basis
There is evidence of an old Sapiens having lived in the town where the grieving woman lived. However, there is no evidence for the persistence of the wife as a non-Sapiens will usually see a Sapiens they know for personal requests.
Spread
The Tale of the Good Sapiens is common knowledge. It is told to most children.
Variations & Mutation
