1492 DR 19 Nightal (The Drawing Down)
General Summary
After some more discussion at the chapterhouse, we left for the Unrolling Scroll, where Harad would use commune to divine answers that would aid our course of action, with the hope that the shrine would encourage Oghma to answer his queries.
We made our way through the Upper City, towards the Wide, when we were suddenly set upon by 4 attackers: three fiendish humanoids - two male and a female - with grey skin and bat-like wings, and a woman of sensual and ethereal beauty in an icy gown. Their assault was swift. The woman isolated Harad within a dome of solid ice while the fiends cursed Leo and Varanis, preventing them from using magic. She then used a dark, mysterious orb, causing Milo to vanish. Though Harad broke out of his prison and Xandar delivered some pain upon her, they all left as swiftly as they had come. Shortly after they disappeared, the curse on Leo and Varanis ended, and a message floated through the the air, both as icy letters and carried by a womans voice:
Woe betide the dale
Sorrow sings o'er the frozen gale
Count to ten as each ye fail
Lament thy sin unto the Prince's tale
It wasn't long before we concluded this was a reference to some threat to the Ten Towns of Icewind Dale. With renewed urgency, we reached the temple. Harad entered the shrine to invoke his ritual, while the others accessed the library. Leo collected information on Icewind Dale, while Xandar found an obscure reference to the dark orb used to kidnap Milo. Harad's communion with the divine was very revealing.
- The Ten Towns are under an existential threat. The Prince of Frost is allied with one or more other beings of similar or greater power to create this threat, and his interest is more than passing. It is within our power to end the threat.
- The threat to the towns is not a red herring that would distract us from rescuing Milo.
- The people the Prince of Frost kidnapped and turned to ice in his quest to find Sharaea can be restored to life. He is invested in keeping them captive victims of his power.
- Titania is not concerned with ending her son's story as the Prince of Frost.
