SKT.6.2 The Eye of the All-Father

Session Preface

Brutal chills run through your spine as the endless snow swirls around you, threatening to bury anyone who stands still for but a moment. Over the crashing screaming wind, you hear the moaning howls of the yetis before you. Where once they screamed in anticipation of warm, fresh meat, they now scream in the fear of the hunter become prey. For on the mountain ledge above, a white dragon licks its lips, crimson red of yeti blood in stark contrast against the white scales. The dragons feral blue eyes scan the gorge for the next course of its meal as its massive leathery wings, ridged with hooks and spikes along the bone, flap harshly against the snowstorm, swirling the ice into a flurry. The dragon wears a massive collar with links of chain broken and bent draped against its muscled form. The dragon lets out a blood curdling screech, rises in the air, and descends towards you.

Session Summary

Harshnag Returns

From above you hear a bellowing, thunderous voice, "DAMNIT ZEPH, YOU CAST IT TOO SOON." Through the clouds and snow, you see a massive shadowed form gradually descending towards you. "FRIENDS, THERE'S A DRAGON COMING. I'M HERE TO - DAMNIT ZEPH IT'S ALREADY HERE." Your travel companion, Harshnag, under the effects of a premature Feather Fall spell, fights against his slowed descent to grab his massive axe. With a struggled heave, the frost giant heaves the behemoth weapon towards the dragon. Also affected by the spell, the axe spins violently once, twice, thrice, before slowing to a halt and falling gradually just out of Harshnag's extended hands. "DAMNIT ZEPH. HOLD ON FRIENDS I'LL BE RIGHT THERE. LEAVE SOME DRAGON SLAYING FOR ME!"   As the party makes their way through the Spine of the World, they are confronted by not only a pack of yetis looking for a meal, but an adult white dragon as well. The exhausting battle nearly overwhelms the party, but through Harshnag's assistance and Emmyth's polymorphing of Thaust into a tyrannosaurus rex, the heroes manage to overcome the monster standing between them and the answers they seek from the oracle.   Bobo and Second say farewell to the group, the former deciding he must return to his tribe and aid in the battle against giants in his own way, while Second grows concerned over the safety of Neverwinter upon news of the dragon and its cloud giant owners hovering over the city. As the party thins, there is little to be done but continue forward. Rydan Hawk Hawkwinter , Thaust, and Emmyth do so, with their frost giant companion guiding the way.   Two days of brutal blizzards and awful conditions follow, exhausting the party as they drag themselves through snow laden valleys and trenches dug by the long strides of Harshnag. On the second evening their rest is disrupted by a pair of ice spiders also finding respite within the cavern, but the party quickly handles this threat with more frustration than risk of injury.   The party then arrives at the Eye of the All-Father, an ancient temple to the giant god built during the giant kingdom of Ostaria's influence over the region. Upon entering the massive domed structure, the heroes find a band of Great Worm Uthgardt barbarians struggling to open the massive giant doors frozen shut by time and the harsh conditions. After a brief battle, the party interogates the shaman of the group to discover the tribe has come to the Eye of the All-Father seeking Noori, a tribesmember captured and brought into caverns within the temple by giant ice spiders. The party decides to keep the shaman alive, though bound, and proceeds inward to the central chamber of the temple.
