SKT.1.3 The Bat of Womford
Wow a lot happened. Haw- I mean, Nightingale’s performance was really good! I had a great time with Second, and we all drank and sang along. We heard some gossip around the bar, too. Hawk’s jerk of a dad took over Nightstone! I still owe him a hammer in the face. Oh, then we heard that there a more of those giants ruining an orchard, and THEN we heard about a monster KIDNAPPING PEOPLE! So many people to help! I finally remembered to give Hawk that heart stone, I really hope it’ll help him with Mya the next time they see each other. Then we slept and walked to the village where people were going missing. After talking to lots of really nice people, we’re waiting to trap the beast and save these people. I really hope that I can deliver Zeus’ wrath to this monster. - Thaust
Session Summary
- After learning of the "Bat of Womford" during Hawk's performance, the party travels to the small fishing village to investigate.
- The party meet Clarence and Carla, who show the party around and lead them to Carla's daughter's room, where scratch marks and blood are found near the window.
- That evening, the party sets a decoy and baits the monster into an old abandoned home, only to discover the "Bat of Womford" is Arik, who reveals himself to be a vampire under the service of Nalaskur. Arik has been forced to work for Nalaskur after a misunderstanding in Waterdeep that cast Arik out with nowhere to go.
- Arik reveals that Nalaskur is holding his betrothed, Corrin, captive and blackmailing Arik in the process.
- Even so, Tristain cannot abide by the innocent death and pain Arik has caused and attacks. The battle is perilous, with Hawk falling unconscious and nearly being transformed into a vampire spawn himself.
- Upon regaining consciousness, Hawk convinces the two sides to come to a compromise, agreeing that if the party can free Corrin, Arik will leave civilization and feed on monsters such as the rampant giants instead.
- The party returns to Bargewright Inn, where Hawk makes a deal with Nalaskur to handle business for him in Daggerford in exchange for Arik and Corrin's freedom.
- On their journey southward, the party stops in Goldenfields in which they aid in the rebuilding efforts and then make their way to the Northern edge of Ardeep Forest, where Thaust plants a magical bean and a mysterious and forboding pyramid grows up from the ground.
