Political

 

The Council of Four

  Grand Duke Ulder Ravengard
Human (he/him). A fearless soldier who rose through the ranks of the Flaming Fist, Ravengard has gone on to become its highest ranked marshal. He, in an unprecedented move, refused to relinquish command of the mercenaries when he convinced the Parliment of Peers to back his ascenion to the Council of Four, making him one of the most powerful figures in the city by far. Concerning himself primarily with the stability and prosperity of the city and its residents, Ravengard's support largely comes from idealistic commoners and the established enemies of the other dukes. He is seen as a voice of reason on the Council and largely immune to scandal and corruption, if not naive politically.   Duke Belynne Stelmane
Human (she/her). Formerly a formidable and lively politian, she recently suffered a seizure that has slowed her speech and left her partially paralyzed.   Duke Dillard Portyr
Human (he/him). A respected businessman who was forced to set aside his career after a series of sour deals, Portyr now prefers to enjoy the comfort his maintained wealth provides. Despite his position, he is quite conflict averse, but shows an earnest desire to help, making promises that he often fails to follow through on. As a result, he is a much criticized member of the Council of Four.   Duke Thalamra Vanthampur
Human (she/her). The shrewd, aggressive matriarch of the Vanthampur family. Thalamra started from nothing, her first job being tirelessly repairing Baldur's Gates' anciet sewer systems. Promotions continued until she reached the Master of Drains and Underways. From here, she leveraged her many connections and her politcal acumen to elevate herself to the Council of Fourt. The newest member on the council, she is also the most politically savvy, conducting many meetings in her private offices and on her family estate, rather than in the Council proceedings themselves.  

Parliment of Peers

A number of prominent Patriar Families maintain a reputation for their extravegent wealth as well as their economic ventures that keep their family among the city's elite through either trade, claims to nobility, political power, or some combination thereof.

The Flaming Fist

  Liara Portyr
Human (she/her). Niece of Duke Portyr, Liara leads an outpost of the Flaming Fist known as Fort Beluarian in Chult.   Jailer Albrecht Little
Human (he/him). Keeper of the keys of the cells maintained in the Seatower by the Flaming Fist.   Jailer Cogrus Stonehammer
Dwarf (she/her). Second in command to Jailer Little, Cogrus oversees the guards who are sent to cell duty for punishment.   Gardak Horn
Dwarf (he/him). Mage Defender of Wrym's Rock, Gardak is the temporary leader of the Flaming Fist garrison at Wrym's Rock following the death of Skorpin Crane, who recently died in his sleep.   Captain Zodge
Human (he/him). A veteran of the Flaming Fist, Zodge has taken the recent chaos afoot in Baldur's Gate as an opportunity to prove himself a capable leader and looks to rise in the ranks aggressively. While he is often abrasive, he is seen as caring for the soldiers under his command and gives the same respect he demands. He is quick to action and quick to violence as needed. His retinue of Flaming Fist soldiers include Issio, Minaqua, Nelestree, oliver, Soltus, and Thalkara.   Skadric Salakar
Human (he/him). A lazy veteran of the Flaming Fist who has been suspended without pay for dereliction of duty and spends the days drinking at the Low Lantern instead.  

The Guild

  Nine-Fingers Keene
Human (she/her). Currently leader of the Guild with a disdain for flashy garb and illusion magic. Of middling age and build, she believes her forgettable looks have proven an asset to her in Baldur's Gate's underworld. Her methods are vicious when necessary, but she is also considered pragmatic and thoughtful. She is equally feared and respected.   Goblin Behnie
Human (he/him). Despite his name, the Bloomridge kingpin is a tall, polished-looking gentlemen in his early thirties. The name, then, comes from his ferocious ego, wild rage, and propensity for biting off the fingers of those who fail him. Also known for his keen eye, his forgers produce some of the best illict Watch tokens, visitor licenses, and docking permits.   The Whiskey Lady
Human (she/her). The Manorborn neighborhood's politically active kingpin whose identity is a mystery to many, despite their frequent interactions with her at parties hosted by the Raddle patriar family.   Straightstick
Human (he/him). The kingpin operating in Twin Songs rumored to be calling in favors to make a move on turf in the Lower City. As it currently stands, he runs one of the most profitable smuggling rings in the Outer City.   Diamond Urchin
Human (she/her). Kingpin of Brampton in the Lower City and ex-wife of Straightstick.   Heltur "Ribbons" Ribbond
Human (he/him). Presumed to be a kingpin or well-placed in The Guild, Ribbons rules the Undercellar, the seedy speakeasy and brothel of the Upper City. He carries himself with an all too affable demeanor and a wide grin that makes his scarred face all the more menacing. He has never been known to lose his temper, even when putting unruly guests in their place.   Rilsa Rael
Human (she/her). The kingpin of Little Calimshan, though she is seen by some, particularly in the city's media, as comparatively egalitarian and a champion of people's rights over the predatory practices of her peers. Her headquarters are maintained in the Calim Jewel Emporium.   Tarina
Human (she/her). A Guild operative who gathers rumors while nursing drinks at Elfsong Tavern. Rumors of her past life as a pirate surface from time to time, but not for long.  

The Watch

  Osmurl Havanack
Dwarf (he/him). High Constable and Master of Walls, Osmurl functions as the castellan of the Watch Citadel. He is deeply loyal to his constables and has to taste for the city's politics. He oversees the Citadel logistics, reprimands Watch members accused of misdeeds, and has no tolerance for misconduct in his ranks.   Jedren Hiller
Human (he/him). As Bailiff of the Wide, it is Jedren's job to assign stall placements and oversee the merchants each day. His corruption is hardly a secret, but with few alternatives to greasing his palms to ensure a good stall and the right opportunities, merchants are obliged to play along.   Genamine Kopali
Human (she/her). Kingpin of the Seatower neighborhood and leader of the Sewerkeepers' crew. She maintains a diverse crew including druids who maintain the sewers as well as more run of the mill ne'er-do-wells that see to the Guild's business in the area.  

Crews

  Dezri "Guts" Lamouer
Human (she/her). Leader of the Legionless Banner, Dezri matches clients with crew members for mercenary work, bodyguard duty, and similar tasks. She can often be found at their unofficial headquarters of Gamult's House of Mastery.   Leone Wen
Human (she/her). A servant of Torm, Leone is a knight who leads the Gravemakers crew in the Cliffside Cemetery of the Outer City. She and her crew prevent undead from threatening the city while simultaneously protecting the dignity of the buried from graverobbers. She uses the suposedly haunted Szarr Mansion in the cemetery's center as her headquarters.  

Religious

  High Artificer Andar Beech
Human (he/him). Oversees the vast workshop. He is known to be meticulous in both his own innovation work and assuring the quality of everything his priests and acolytes produce.   Brother Hodges
Halfing (he/him). Brother Hodges serves the poor and homeless of the Lower City at the Shrine of the Suffering and accepts donations from all levels of Baldurian society to support his efforts.   Hansen & Sissa Hodges
Halfing (he/him)(she/her). Brother Hodges' adult children who serve at the Shrine of Suffering alongside him. Hansen sees to the logistics around the burial services handled at the shrine while Sissa leads the efforts to provide meals to those who visit in need of assistance.   Tormtar Alton
Human (he/him). A man in his early thirties, Alton runs the Righteous Hand following Tormtar Haldern's stepping down. Having come through the orphanage himself, he is no stranger to the struggles of the youths he tries to train up, but faces the same challenges as his predecessors as it relates to resources and capacity. The recent turmoil has him worried that there will be surge of orphans and he has little room to accomodate more children as it is.   Tormtar Haldern
Human (he/him). A soft-spoken but stern man who has spent his entire life in Baldur's Gate. His neatly cut hair greyed early, as did his mustache. Having spent decades leading and overseeing the Righteous Hand in the Lower City, Haldern has since "retired" to leading a few services a day at the Temple of Truth in the Upper City.   Helmite Dirston Marshtalon
Human (he/him). Formerly an adventurer who survived an expedition in Chult decades ago, Dirston returned a man of devout faith, atesting his success to Helm's watchful eye and protection. He served the small shrine of the Watchful Shield and rose in the ranks from an acolyte while serving as a member of the Watch in the Upper City. Now, he spends far more time in meetings and brushing shoulders with the patriars in hopes of continued funding and prestiege.   Allandra Grey
Human (she/her). An intimidating figure, Allandra leads the waveservants at the Water Queen's House. In addition to oversees the finances and operations of the temple, she leads the services in which the waveservants take the offerings to Umberlee into the sea in hopes of ensuring safe passage for the ships of Baldur's Gate.   Aramina
Human (she/her). A former Candlekeep scholar who brought her lifelong study of psychology from the academic to a clinical practice at the Church of Last Hope. Here she runs the combined chapel and asylum of the Twin Songs neighborhood, offering refuge to those facing depression and mental illness. She goes to great lengths to thwart the efforts of the Faithless, the Twin Songs guild-backed gang that sees many of her guests as wealthy targets ripe for all manner of criminal plots.    

Merchants

 

Upper City

  Tendai and Khennen Shore
Human (he/him)(he/him). This married couple run Distant Shores, importing dried meats, spices, and cookware from their family back in Port Nyanzaru. They have found themselves pressed in by business prospectors looking the buy them out and expand the successful business.   Ellyn Harbreeze
Human (she/her). The plump, red-haired proprietor of Harbreeze Bakery. She is famous for her whimsically painted cookies and sugarbread loaves along with other exotic ingredients in her bakes. With her shop a primary gossipping spot for patriars, she is often well-informed of the going-ons in the Upper City.   Vedren & Halesta
Human (he/him)(she/her). This courting pair of Knights belong to the Knights of the Unicorn and run Helm and Cloak, the order's unofficial headquarters.   Alstan, Brunkhum, & Klalbrot Wintersides
Human (he/him). Three wart-covered brothers in their late fifties, known collectively as "the three old toads", who operate and own the Three Old Kegs tavern, a favorite of the Flaming Fists. They are known to have a soft-spot for sob stories. All of the staff are widows and orphans. They regularly hold fundraisers for the families of those crippled or killed in serve of the city. Though caring, they are not the most discerning of folk and have fallen prey to their fair share of grifters over the years, sometimes being forced to seek outside help to keep the tavern solvent.  

Lower City

  Alan Alyth
Half-elf (he/him). Owner and proprieter of the Elfsong Tavern who recently turned seventy-five and has run the tavern and inn for decades. His staff includes:
  • Falten and Yimiur, two young men who take orders and deliver food
  • Klank, a suit of animated armor, and Skoona, a gruff half-ogre, both of whom serve as bouncers
  • Chenna Fatrabbit, a chery halfling executive chef and her sous chef, the testyAza Valsheem and the blind pastry chef, Klav Martilmur
  Larelra Thundreth
Human (she/her). Middle-aged owner of the Low Lantern, known as "the Captain" to her staff and patrons. She does not mind the affairs of her customers or concern herself when they get rowdy as long as they are willing to pay for the damages afterward. She is often seen with a crab familiar perched on one shoulder. She keeps a staff of two kenku bartenders and a handful of bouncers.   Ettvard Needle
Human (he/him). Ettvard runs the Baldur's Mouth in Heapside. He always rankled at how the Lower City residents were treated by the haughty patriars and started the broadsheet as a way to empower his fellow commoners. Where he first only paid latern lighters to shout his headlines, he eventually created the broadsheet as a way to spread stories further, teaching much of Lower City to read in the process. Needle is often looking for adventurers who can investigate the mysterious or dangerous elements of stories or procure proof of corruption by the city's elite.   Aurayuan
Half-orc (he/him). Innkeeper of the Blade and Stars in the Lower City who has gone missing, along with the illusory shield that served as the inn's signage.   Lupin
Human (she/her). Wife of Aurayuan and innkeeper of the Blade and Stars. She believes foul play is involved in her husband's disappearance, rejecting the Flaming Fist's assertion that he simply abandonned her and left with the shield.   Leylenna Candulhallow
Human (she/her). Matriarch of the Candulhallow family who oversees their funeral arrangement services.   Rakath Glitterbeard
Dwarf (he/him). The proprietor and key treasurer of the city's banking crew, the Honorable Order of Moneylenders. He oversees the Counting House. If the security of the bank were not enough, the rumors of Rakath's position as a kingpin within The Guild deters many thieves from even considering robbing the Counting House.   Scalm Shilvin
Tiefling (she/her). The slick storekeeper of Eastway Expeditions. She capitalized on the explosion of trading with Chult, selling expedition gear to eager adventurers or travelers heading to the jungles. When few returned, the city intervened and placed purchase delays on much of her equipment. She now sells more modest selections and is known as having connections for those looking to get out of the city quickly and quietly.   Avery Sonshal
Human (he/him). An alchemist by trade, Avery oversees Felogyr's Fireworks and his family's monopoly on producing smokepowder in Baldur's Gate. His patrons whisper that Avery has seemed stretched thin or stressed as of late, though with business as good as it has been, they see no reason for his more anxious demeanor.   Garmult
Human (they/them). An aged martial artist, Garmult runs the ale house and martial school, Gamult's House of Mastery. A former gladiator, they offer training in a variety of disciplines and weapon specialities. Those looking for a friendly sparring match in the atrium are always welcome to test themselves against Garmult. They work with Dezri "Guts" Lamouer in coordinating contracts for the Bannerless Legion crew.   Merliyn Allaryr
Elf (she/her). Operating the Hissing Stones, Meriyln works tirelessly to ensure her clients receive the most luxurious service and that her establishment remains a neutral, safe, and private place for both relaxiation and meetings.   Jopalin
Half-elf (he/him). Jopalin transformed his father's seedy dockside tavern into an upscale tea house. Many know of his special blend of herbal tea that forms an addictive habit for frequent patrons. He maintains a lavish loft above the cafe.   Jentha Allinamuch
Halfing (she/her). The raucous and chaotic owner of the Smilin' Boar known equally for its salaciously named breakfast offerings as for the quality of the meals themselves. Jentha has had little time to celebrate her success, however, as her restaurant has been plagued by bodies appearing in the alley behind the cafe over the last six months. With the victims seemingly having nothing in common except the means of murder and no ties to Jentha or her establishment, she is at wit's end trying to maintain business as normal.   Rivalen Blackhand
Human (he/him). Eccentric and named for his withered right hand from an experimental spell gone awry, Rivalen operates Sorcerous Sundries, one of the most successful magic shops in the city.   Gilligunn

Outer City

  Entharl Danthelon
Dwarf (he/him). Owner and shopkeep of Danethelon's Dancing Axe, an adventuring gear store. An unassuming, middle-aged fellow who claims to have been an adventurer in his earlier years, as evidenced by the magical, flying ax that guards his shop at night. He revels in telling new customers of how he earned the axe and the grateful elven princess that enchanged it for him in reward for saving her in his adventures.   Yssra Brakrel
Half-elf (she/her). Operating a salon in the shop above the Danthelon's. She is known to be cantankerous and often earns her business by highlighting the unfalttering haircuts of those who frequent Danthelons or trouble her for her spellcasting capabilities that she offers as a side gig.   Ubis Garynmor
Human (he/him). Owner and manager of Garnymor Stables and Menagerie, Ubis is a former world traveler who developed a fascination with animals exotic and mundane alike. While his stables are most of the largest and most ubiqitous in the city, it is his collection of magical and other animals that draw crowds regularly. Ubis happily pays adventurers for healthy specimen of rare creatures, keeping his collection fresh and caring for the companions as best he can.   Pasque Enrial

Half-elf (he/him). The accountant of Hamhocks Slaughterhouse who spends much of his time, even at work, perusing strange tomes.   Jonas Goodnight
Human (he/him). The mastermind owner and director of Oasis Theater who delights in surprising and mystifying his patrons with ambitious acts of daring and artistic flare. It is no secret that the cost of his acts has placed him in debt and that his next performances need to be smash hits to keep him out of hot water with his financiers.  
 

Residents

 

Upper City

  Mortlock, Amrik, Thurstwell Vanthampur
Human (he/him). The three sons of Duke Thalamra Vanthampur who see to her non-governmental business throughout the city. Amrik is seen as the brains of the operation while Mortlock is the muscle. Thurstwell, an often sickly individual, is seen far less than his brothers.   In addition to a rotating retinue of guards, the Vanthampur household also employs:
  • Fendrick Gray, their aging butler
  • Gabourey D'Vaelan, their pernicious cook
  • Ambra Fallwater, their most recently hired maid
  Nysene Eomane
Human (she/her). The most infamous of the four Eomane siblings who throw scanalous masked revels at the manor. Nysene imparticular likes to invite social hopefuls and those looking to climb the ranks from other districts as a form of entertainment for her guests.   Lutecia Hhune
Human (she/her). The matriarch of the Hhune household who oversees their smallish manor. With estranged siblings and no heirs, she faces the prospect of bequeathing her family home to a detested branch of her family upon her passing. To this end, she is actively researching her family's genealogy and will go to great lengths to find some other way to pass on the home to a more suitable inheritor.   Kaddrus
Human (he/him). A strikingly handsome man, he serves as Lutecia Hhune's valet.   Virmele
Human (she/her). The librarian currently tasked with aiding Lutectia Hhune in her search for extended records of her family's genealogy.   Satiir Thione-Hhune
Human (she/her). A matriarch in her seventies, Satiir looks to inherit her sister Lutecia's manor upon her passing.   Lorrokan
Human (he/him). A young, short-tempered wizard who recently took up residence in Ramazith's Tower. He has only exhumed the first two floors, operating a small shop that offers simple magical services such as mending and practical enchantments on the first floor while residing in a portion of the second.   Yvandre Rillyn
Human (she/her). Veteran of the Flaming Fist who served in Chult, she has returned to open the Rillyn School for sword-wielding. She is a hard teacher who sets high expectations and rejects many of the patriar's pampered sons and daughters, making her few friends in the Upper City's social circles.   Falaster Fisk
Human (he/him). Originally from Calimshan, Falaster has connections to researchers in Candlekeep and is doing field research on infernal influences in the city of Baldur's Gate.  

Lower City

  Torimesh
Dwarf (he/him). Arriving in Baldur's Gate four decades ago, Torimesh assumed residence on what was once a junkyard and transformed it into a verdant natural space, Insight Park, that all residents of the Lower City can enjoy. He resides in a small hut backed against the jutting outcropping of stone still referred to as Dumper's Rock.   Imbralym Skoond
Huamn (he/him). Having purchased the gaudy mansion that belonged to the Sesker family, Skoond soon rose to prominence as the Council of Four's wizard in residence, doing regular favors for the council and their retinues. Four alchemist apprentices occupy the Sesktergates with him, though he is rarely home.   Skrawldar Fane
Human (he/him). A punch-drunk shipwright who burned off his eyebrows, but doesn't remember how. Frequents Elfsong Tavern.   Lala Stout
Halfling (she/her). A scar-faced burglar who idly flips coins while drinking at Elfsong Tavern more nights than not.   Oloric Witmirth
Human (he/him). A playwright with no coins to his name. He spends his days at the Elfsong Tavern penning observations and looking for his next inspiration.   Whaul Nightley
Half-orc (he/him). Known for his bellowingg laugh, Whaul is a jovial, strong-jawed ratcatcher who looks for work at Elfsong Tavern.   Rahima Sajiressa
Human (she/her). Gregarious in personality and appearance, Rahima is an astrologer with an insatiable gambling streak. Frequents Elfsong Tavern.   Willow Brownbug

Human (he/him). Pirate captain of the Uncivil Serpent, he and his crew recently docked in Baldur's Gate.   Grimboot
Duergar (he/him). Gruff, cross-eyed duergar who collects debts for The Guild as the local 'legbreaker'.   Hitoshi Jade
Human (he/him). A crew member of the merchant ship, the Golden Gull who hangs out at the Low Lantern getting drunk when his shop is in port.   Jorunn Nighbury
Human (he/him). A shy horse breeder employed by the Belt family trying to stay ahead of a gambling debt. Spends his nights at the Low Lantern.   Prynn Derringwhistle
Halfling (he/him). A barnacle scraper at the dock who likes to belt out old sea shanties from his youth. Wears a pair of weathered spectacles.   Aerith and Beldan
Drow (he/him)(they/them). A pair of inseparable twins who escaped the Underdark in search of adventure, but have wound up frequenting the Low Lantern unsure of how to proceed.  

Outer City

  Pernilla "Prole" Cabrenock
Gnome (she/her). An outspoken critic of the Gate's government, Pernilla lives and leads the Whitkeep Hostel community alongside Ardryn.   Ardryn Deagle
Gnome (he/him). An inventor and arcanist with a flair for the peculiar, he lives and helps lead the community of artists and revolutionaries who call the Whitkeep Hostel home.  

Historic

  Eltan
Human (he/him). A local warrior who returned home and united the city's various mercenary companies under a single banner, the Flaming Fist.   Sarevok
Human (he/him). Bhaalspawn and member of the Iron Throne merchants' guild who sought to spark a war with Amn and become the new Lord of Murder. He was eventually thwarted by another Bhaalspawn and their powerful allies, bringing stability to Baldur's Gate for a time.   Ramazith
Half-elf (he/him). The sailor and mage who built the six-story tower just a few blocks from The Wide a century ago. He died under mysterious circumstances shortly after the tower's construction, which has been the subject of many rumors and legends.   Mandorcai
Human (he/him). Eccentric and brooding, Mandorcai is responsible for the blight of a mansion that appeared overnight in the Bloomridge neighborhood. Shortly after it appeared, Mandorcai disppeared from public life, but he has not been seen in years while the mansion itself has fallen into disarray at an accelerated rate and been the source of many local mysteries and legends.
