Velvet Quill

The Golden Quill & Velvet Quill

Location: Merchant Quarter, Neverwinter

The Golden Quill
A polished veneer of respectability, the Golden Quill is one of Neverwinter’s most prestigious inns. Its façade gleams with brass lanterns and marble columns, and its sign — a golden quill poised above an open ledger — promises discretion and quality.

Inside, silk-draped walls, velvet chairs, and soft harp music welcome the city’s elite: merchants, guild representatives, minor nobles, and traveling dignitaries. They strike deals over wine imported from Evereska, exchange rumors by firelight, and trust that the Golden Quill’s reputation for privacy is as gilded as its name.

The Velvet Quill (Backroom, Invitation-Only)
Beyond a concealed door behind the Golden Quill’s kitchens lies the Velvet Quill — a place of whispered desires and dangerous indulgences. Its name is never advertised, only spoken softly among those who know where to knock.

Here, the air is perfumed with exotic incense and rosewater. Music hums low, inviting and intimate. The patrons are different — powerful guildmasters, wealthy merchants, bored nobles, and those seeking pleasures they dare not pursue in daylight. What happens here is not written in ledgers.

Unbeknownst to most, the Velvet Quill serves a second purpose: information. Every soft word, drunken confession, or whispered threat is heard, remembered, and sometimes sold. A misplaced purse or stolen trinket is the least dangerous thing to lose here.

Clientele Divide

  • Golden Quill Front
Merchants finalizing trade contracts, guild envoys, adventurers seeking wealthy patrons, minor nobles flaunting titles.
  • Velvet Quill Back
The same faces — but masks off. Nobles chasing forbidden thrills, merchants bribing officials, and agents of powerful factions who know that in Neverwinter, secrets are worth more than gold.
