The Astral Plane

To call the Astral Plane a plane is to perpetuate something of a misnomer. The Astral Plane, or the Sea of Stars, is the formless compliment to every other plane in the universe, the endless Nothing that lays between everything else's Something.   The Astral Plane is the endless sea of stars that exists outside of Folia and its many planes. It is the sky itself, filling the void between the planes and around every edge, and continuing to infinity. From any point on the Astral Plane, every other plane is accessible, even those which have been severed from the world. The stars are glowing motes, providing the only light accessible so far from the suns of the world. Despite the distance from the planes, the aethyr in this place is breathable, if cold.   The Sea of Stars exists in two distinct shapes, the Inner Sky and Outer Astral.   The first is the shallow starry void between two opposite planes, filling the sky with stars rather than inverted mountains and houses. This void roughly begins where the gravity of the plane ends, and can be accessed by creatures which fly. Only the opposing faces and the outer sea may be accessed from the shallow Inner Sky.   The second is the true sea which exists beyond the ends of the world. This void is infinite in every direction.

Geography

Apart from the stars and clouds of celestial dust, there are fragments of land floating out in the endless ocean of Nothing. These floating islands may be constructed by gods or magi, or they may be parts of the planes themselves which have been severed by some calamitous event. Gravity is only ever present around land when within the Astral Plane.

Localized Phenomena

Occasionally, when a star is forced from its favored position, it may find itself streaking across the sea, careening endlessly until something, which may be another star, blocks its path. Sometimes, these shooting stars fly towards the material planes, finding themselves plummeting to the ground. These fallen stars are a priceless source of the magic of the stars and aethyr themselves, and highly prized by mortals.
