WorldEmber Prep 2025

Preparing for the biggest official event of the Winter Season.

Amongst other things I've been busy with this month (like NovelEmber) I've also been preparing for WorldEmber and all the joy that entails such an endeavour. I'll be honest in the fact that I've been anticipating it since Summer Camp ended so I'm coming into the whole event quite hyped.

Step 1: Pledge your Goal

W32025 Pledge Certificate by WorldAnvil

Although this will be my first year of WorldEmber, I am not an island and I've been reading and hearing from other Anvilites that this bingo is special for this year. It also seems that there's alot of new things that'll be happening this year which is very interesting and very exciting.

Step 2: Prep Bingo

It seems this year we've been given a prep bingo to complete as opposed to other years, so following the trends of what others have done I'll fill this out as I go and we'll see where we land. Since I'm not that great at CSS I'm going to list my experiences with each task below the bingo board.

Tile A1: Review or collect your world inspirations

Millanote Mood Board

My Milanote Board for Portraiture in the 1800s sourced from the Royal Collection Trust's website.

I've started a milanote board for this to help me keep on track. Since I'm mainly aiming to try and make Flora Nouveau roughly about the 1800s in my setting, it's currently a wide mess of historical paintings from that era of history. I probably do need to sort it and properly establish some order within it, but right now it's just a pile of things I find interesting from a variety of museums.

Tile A2: Refresh your Author Profile

I've done some picking and pruning at my profile and tried to give the essence of who I am and what I want to do but I find that if I go into too much detail I risk causing an absolute deluge of word soup onto the thing and I highly doubt that anyone actually wishes to see that. I've managed to put what my main inspirations are there so that's the main thing. I may also link the appropriate websites if people want to be nosy further, (Letterboxd, Goodreads, Infinite Backlog etc.) but I doubt anyone is dying to know my opinions on Nintendogs and Final Fantasy XIV.

Tile A3: Create a Mood board for your Area of Focus

Okay I don't fully know what the difference is between this and A1, and they're both being served by the Milanote board but in the interest of saying I did it, I'm going to point back to that. I may make multiple boards in the future which will just further cement this point.

Tile A4: Set up your world Home page.

Okay when I made Flora Nouveau I had big dreams that I probably won't actually see to fruition but I would still like to try. I've made a couple passing attempts to try and set up my world home page, and ideally there'd be a set of category pages that I could further sort and link to with different subheadings for recency, topics, and relevancy but right now I don't actually have anything. I'm probably going to use the book covers with some minimal floral applique and reused templates to try and achieve the same effect.

Tile B4: Find an Accountability Buddy

As explained in Cato's article, I decided to approach Catoblepon to partner up for this event. It turns out that they were already approached by Owen, so now the three of us make up the Accountability Musketeers, which I think is a very hopeful and fruitful outcome.

Tile C2: Read a Book

I'm not entirely sure what they meant with this but I'm currently reading the second book of the Lord of the Rings series (the Two Towers) although juggling school, art, NovelEmber and everything else means that I mostly go straight to bed before reading I technically haven't actually put the book down yet so.

Tile C3: Free Space

I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing here so I'm just going to move on.

Tile C4: Prepare visual elements for your articles

I think this was meant to be a more casual challenge to most people and not fully aimed as those of us who spend multiple days trying to create a piece. However, it has given me the fuel to start doing some studies of the portraiture shown in my above mood boards and I've created one piece so far I aim to use for royalty or leaders.

I aim to play around with the bloodlines/family tree feature alot more during WorldEmber and so having alot of pretty portrait to use for that is going to be very welcomed. I will also admit that studying actual historical portraits has helped me alot in figuring out alot of art techniques on the side.

Tile D1: Plan your Worldbuilding playlist

I'm still unsure if I'm going to stream this or not, if I am going to stream it I'm probably going to make use of the free music available to me via Chillhop and such, but if I'm not I might use some playlists that are comprised of 1800s music to truly get myself in the mood.

Tile E2: Join the Community

I've been here the whole time. I've actually been in the discord community and facebook community since 2022 I just haven't been as active. I used to use WorldAnvil mainly for working on Final Fantasy XIV Roleplay and fanfiction stuff but I did also compete a few times and fill in the odd survey. I haven't actually put this much effort in before though.

Tile E4: Go on a Walk

It is unbelievably cold in Finland but I managed to wrestle myself into going on a walk. I was fine with just going in a hoodie and scarf as I don't fully have the fantasy winter wardrobe of my dreams just yet. However, my husband came along for the ride and brought my fantasy cape so that I could have a somewhat fantasy picture. Sadly I'm not sure I should post it as I don't look great but, I did infact go on said walk.
