Have you ever been to the Worldtree?

A childhood song & poem about the great pilgrammage to the worldtree.

'Have you ever been to the worldtree?' is a famous poem (and song) of ancient yore said to be spoken by the great Bard of the west about his travels. It's one of the key standing pieces about the worldtree and is often referenced within religious texts and primers as well as a night time fairy tale told to children to get them ready for the great pilgrimage.

Summary

Although the story has been passed down alot and been weaved into alot of traditional belief the text itself stands mostly unchanged as a formative piece of culture and an introduction for children to the idea of The Worldtree pilgrimage and the importance of experiencing the might and the wonder of the worldtree for ones self.

Have you ever been to the worldtree?

Have you ever seen it in person?

It's big and tall within two great walls

That that name the Gaul Mountains.

They it's magic, that worldtree,

that it holds what it hears,

It mourns for your tears,

and it cares for your fears, that worldtree.

I once met it.

I pet it.

It blessed me, I let it.

And now I can't forget it

The memory of that worldtree.

Maybe you should go,

Tell my tale and bestow,

All the love I have below,

That one worldtree, and it's glow.

Historical Basis

Although not everything is fully known about the Great Bard of the West nor have historians managed to concretely nail down the exact timing of his travels and the world he lived within, it is widely believed in cotemporary theory that he belonged to the times of yore. Thus, it would be believed if such were true, then his pilgrimage would've also been in times of yore, or at least in a time where there were still mountains either side of the tree.

I find it very inspiring that you chose a song/poem for the fairytale! It makes me very happy to see such a different approach that also serves as a great introduction for the Worldtree itself ^^ Thank you so much for entering my challenge and here is your participation badge!
