Quantum

Mists of Such Cerulean Hue

Quantums are flowers similar to orchids that grow in Quantum Fields directly below The Cities of Blue. Beneath each field is a deposit of Aether and the Quantums feed on it, as opposed to photosynthesis like other flora.
Quantums are blue, and glow from the Aether they feed on. They are highly radioactive and cannot be handled unless one has proper equipment. Quantums refine Aether on their own and the radioactive gases they emit are a residual product of this process. If the flower is cut, and allowed to sit for up to 2 hours, the last bit of Aether is refined, and the flower goes dormant and is safe to handle.

Uses

The flower is heavily used in many situations. Some use it to harvest refined Aether without having to refine it themselves, although to do this on a massive scale would cost far to much in time and money to not mine the Aether underground. Usually, flowers are collected and sold as a cheaper source of refined Aether, albeit a smaller one. The flowers are used in many botanical solutions and food. It imparts an anise flavor when allowed to infuse in water, and adds a series of sweet notes to food.

The Hue of Blue

The Quantum Fields are deadly to any living thing that enters. Each flower radiates the Aether mist and it all coalesces into a cloud of fog that weaves between the many rows of flora. This causes the entire filed to cast a bright light in night time skies that can be seen for many miles around.
