Dreadnoughts

The Fear Nothings

He heard shouting from up above and it stirred him from a deep slumber. He didn't know the source, but the panicked cry from the decks above pierced the darkness of the battleship's barracks. He wearily sat up and tried to find the switch that would illuminate the surrounding room. The noises of the other men and women aboard began to ring out, bouncing off of the metal walls.
what had he said?
the light flickered on, revealing the many exhausted faces of his fellow crew. The cry came again and his thoughts received an answer.
"Wake up, Dreadnought on the horizon!"
The words acted like a trigger that released a sudden rush of adrenaline in his veins. He wasn't the only one, as the entire barracks sprang to life with explosive shouts and speed. they ran from their bunks, dressing as they headed the door, helping each other as they could. They sprang from the hatch and as they moved to their battlestations, they stopped in their tracks as something drew their gaze to the horizon. It was like gravity, the eyes pulling toward the object that dashed their hopes and filled them with an unexpected petrifying fear. The ship on the horizon was massive. The ship was the flagship of The House of Winter. They named it The First Snow....
A Dreadnought is a battleship outfitted in a very specific manner and usually used as a flagship if a capital class ship is not used in an armada. The specific type of with large caliber guns it is highly capable when it comes to its own defense. Dreadnoughts are heavily armored and he usually have turrets fitted across its hull. They're often faster then other battleships due to their sleeker more modern design. Almost all dreadnoughts operate on Aether engines and these engines tend to be Quantum Key compatible such as The Delerium , the most famous dreadnought ever built.   Dreadnoughts are often used by military organizations and it's also used as a seat of power by The Sky Barrons and other The Pauper Kings. They're used as artillery as well being focused on Long ranged weaponry allows them to stay as far from the fight as possible and still make an impact.

A Priceless Vessel

Dreadnoughts are by far the most expensive ships to produce and for obvious reasons. The ammunition that loads its many weapons over the course of a battle between flashing armadas alone could set you up for life. They are also likely filled with several crew member specifically kept on staff to board vessels and take them from the enemy. Possessing a Dreadnought means you have more than money. It means you have power and the means to keep it. For these reasons a Dreadnought is incredibly rare, but is often a much-desired vessel for any would-be admiral.

Carriers

Some dreadnoughts are outfitted with fighter bays and the pilots to man them. The greatest danger to enemy fighters is a fighter of your own. The fighters add another danger pilots must keep in mind making them more prone to mistakes. While trying to evade another fighter, its likely enemy pilots will accidentally line up perfectly into a turret's line of fire.
Dreadnoughts have often been the key to intimidating one's enemy no crew on a smaller vessel can stand firm at the site of such majestic terror. It's not just the size. The biggest ships tend to be the easiest prey for smaller vessels. It's the principle. A massive worship dedicated to the indiscriminate allocation of death lies within your view. It leisurely glides, traveling slowly but surely. The true fear comes the fact that such a vessel is armed to the teeth, well defended, and you have to fight it. A Dreadnought facing you has already considered you target. This would be fine under normal circumstances Until you realize your own insignificance in a vessel that is a fraction of its size. It sees you but it does not fear you. Dreadnought, Fear Nothing...

Strengths and Weaknesses

Dreadnought are most capable when fighting a long ranged as anyone ship attempting to intercept a dreadnought it's a sitting duck and will not last long. The biggest issue that a Dreadnought has comes from enemy Fighters and other small craft such as a Corvette. Due their high-caliber weaponry, targeting smaller vessels especially Fighters can be nearly impossible. This is one of the major reasons why dreadnoughts are fitted with turrets. A Dreadnought that cannot defend itself from smaller targets will always result in the destruction of the vessel. Even with turrets, dreadnoughts are still in grave danger when engaging small craft. Most captains will immediately seek to evade small craft and distance themselves, as opposed to trying to fight.
