Pig Metal
If you pay close enough attention, you’ll see that a big part of our world is made out of music. No surprise, music is very important to the people of our world, and they enjoy and express themselves in a wide variety of music genres. Of course, people from all around the world enjoy all sorts of different music genres, but you’ll soon notice that many of these music genres are closely related to one or another area of our world. It’s not too surprising to learn that it’s the more strange and extreme genres that appeal to the people of T@Ö#Å3, and one of these is a peculiar genre called pig metal.
Pig metal? What is it, you ask? Well, it should be pretty self explanatory, it’s a subgenre of metal that heavily involves pigs, and if you listen to it for a bit, you’ll know exactly how. That’s right, all the vocalists of pig metal bands are pigs. And no, this is not a figure of speech or a reference to yet another strange mole subspecies, they are, in fact, real actual pigs.
A bit about gore metal
How did this come to happen you ask? If you think about it, it was really only a matter of time. Metal genre in general is known for utilizing vocals going from screaming, growling, to guttural vocals that some might say already sound more like pig sounds than anything most mole people are normally capable of. From here, it only took one man with an idea and a pig to form a first pig metal band. But let’s take one step back for a moment.
Pig metal is mainly believed to have evolved from another strange and extreme genre of T@Ö#Å3 - gore metal. It doesn’t sound much like a name for something as wholesome and benevolent as a type of music, but this is T@Ö#Å3 we’re talking about. If you spent some time here you’ll walk way too fast into the dark underbelly of the towns that already seem pretty sketchy and dangerous. Here you’ll find many underground settlements such as the infamous Neon Maze, full of crime, murder, strange violent fetishes, drugs, and of course, the butchers, you know about the butchers, don’t you? The only music genre that could have emerged from here is one that heavily revolves around such topics.
Though not really too bad at all if you give it a chance, the creators of this genre pride themselves with creating a genre almost unlistenable to many, and meant for the people here who are the only ones who can truly understand it. The band names usually revolve around medical or anatomical terms, violent acts, bodily fluids and worse. With band names that we would rather not mention here and song lyrics revolving around more or less the same things or worse, this is a very niche genre, genuinely enjoyed by only a few.
Birth of pig metal
I know, I know, so far we’ve barely ever said anything about T@Ö#Å3 that doesn’t involve crime or death or trash or drugs or despair and desolation, but not all parts of T@Ö#Å3 are like this. Once you get further away from Haunted Forest and Wasteland, in more central regions of T@Ö#Å3, you’ll find people who tend to be more lighthearted and have a sense of humor about the place and situation they live in. Still as creative as the members of the molekind should be and still as insane as people of T@Ö#Å3 should be, they got their hands on the genre of gore metal and turned into something yet more insane and strange.
As already mentioned, it all started with one man, today only known by his stage name Pigley, one pig, named Mumford, and an idea. While listening to some or another gore metal band he, perhaps in a humorous manner remarked to a friend that the singer sounds pretty much like his own pig does. No, no, seriously, his pig makes the exact same noises, maybe he oughta start his own band with his pig. Maybe he should, his friend agreed, and thus, the first pig metal band was born.
Well what was the name of that band then? Well you see, here it gets tricky. You may have figured that this band started more or less as a parody of gore metal as a whole, that also applies to the band name. We already mentioned some of the band names, but to go with the theme of trying to keep this genre as obscure as possible, these bands take to pick band logos as illegible and weird as possible, to the point where they look almost as if someone just threw some branches on a pile and took a picture of it. And that’s exactly what the first pig metal band’s name and logo was - a picture of some branches strewn about in the Pigley’s backyard. Lyrics of the songs were, needless to say, the pig noises that Mumford made and the songs were pretty short. You can’t really expect a pig to keep up with a full elaborate song. With some of Pigley's friends agreeing to join the band, the first pig metal band was ready to start producing music.
It may have started as a weird joke that got out of hand, but the people seemed to really start enjoying pig metal. It was weird and unique, something people haven’t seen before, and the band soon became very successful. So successful in fact, that many wanted to start their own pig metal band. More and more bands soon popped up, following all the main characteristics of this first band - heavy influence of gore metal, pig vocalists and band names that were no more than arrangements of branches and twigs. Pig metal today is still a very obscure and niche genre that many will never even know about, but it has gained its own devoted following that don’t only enjoy the absurdity of the whole thing, but actually quite enjoy the music as well. You know once you make peace with the pig vocals it’s actually pretty good P_P
