Final Vacation

Midsummer Season

The standard school year starts at the beginning of the year and lasts until the midsummer season. This means a month off from school, before continuing again until the end of the year.

The midsummer month is a month of vacation for everyone, the school kids and adults, and many like to go on vacations during that time. Kids usually got with their parents, but the young moles in their last year of secondary school usually take this time to go on their “end of school” vacation.

Why is it so special?

Of course, young moles may go on vacation with their friends and without their parents before that, but this last vacation is special. You see, it’s not really the “last” vacation as much as it is the “first” vacation young new families would go on together.

After the school is over, these moles families usually move out of their parents’ homes to start their lives together as new families, and this vacation is a perfect opportunity for them to get a taste of this freedom, as well as responsibility.

This is usually the first vacation that young families plan all on their own from start to finish, without the help of their parents. Doesn’t seem too hard does it? But, you have to keep in mind that this isn’t just about booking a vacation and paying for it. These vacations are the time where the leader of the family will really have to show their ability to keep everything and everyone in order, which can be a little tricky with a group of young people, even though these families usually aren’t bigger than about 4-6 people.

Another thing with these vacations is that the young moles tend to travel quite far away from their homes, to see the world, to really have that freedom where their parents can’t stitch their nose into their business, but it also means that their parents won’t be to help out if anything goes wrong.

The importance

Every young mole takes this vacation extremely seriously. This isn’t a mere vacation, this is a step into adulthood, a rite of passage, so to speak. It symbolizes leaving the parent and the birth family behind, to make your own way in the world with the new family you choose for yourself. But most of all, it means a week or two of partying, and getting into trouble without your parents nagging you all the time :D
