Unique Vehicle Types
WIP Though tanks, helicopters, and the like all exist in Fission Intercept, there are some new vehicles types made possible by technology unique to the setting.
Liftwing - Massive flying-wing aircraft powered by atomic jet engines, with wingspans up to half a kilometre long. Most are cargo aircraft, though some standoff ALCM bombers exist, both nuclear and conventional. They require specialized airstrips to takeoff and land, yet can carry cargo of unprecedented size and weight.
Aerobreaker - Large hovering gunships used in a similar breakthrough role as tanks, made possible with anti-missile defense and strong armor. Weak to sustained barrage with high-calibre shells, or highly advanced missiles. Used most effectively in combined-arms operations, as without support they tend to be downed quickly.
Landship:
With barely any water to sail a navy on, the Anrayalle were forced to come up with a creative solution, birthing the Anrayalle Naval Land Corps. With the massive swathes of salt flats, dried-out seabed, and barren plains present on Anrayal, it made sense to create a navy which could operate on the land instead of the sea. Huge treaded
One of the primary focuses of these ‘landships’ was to create a moving platform for launching ASAT missiles and ABMs. It was predicted that static launch sites would be wiped out by orbital counterbattery fire within a short time, but moving the firing site after launch would resolve this issue.
Landships are typically smaller than naval vessels, and roll on 4-6 independently controlled treads.
Ekranoplans (not unique to FI, just used alot)
Ekranoplans are used often in the Anrayalle Naval Land Corps, since Anrayal’s flat terrain allows them to operate over land. CNSPAC
Breakthrough Engines
will write full thing for these eventually. concepts are there but too lazy to write down but stuff is in fi channel on toughsf
BELOW MAY OR MAY NOT EXIST
Mech:
wont actually be called a mech
mech - Mechs are humanoid battle machines about one, maybe two stories tall. They were developed exclusively for urban combat, where they have many advantages over traditional armored vehicles. In open spaces, however, they will be quickly destroyed by tanks and ATGMs. They are a highly adapted and effective situational tool, yet in the modern combat environment, a forcibly expendable one as well.
Advantages
- Urban Combat - With its fast reaction time, quick response speed, and exceptional situational awareness, a Mech is well suited to urban combat.
- Easy Maintenance - The thin nature of the mech allows easy maintenance and replacement of limbs or parts lost in combat.
- Human Compatibility - A frame more suited to human physiology allows for the pilot to have an intuitive sense of where they are and how to move themselves. In addition, direct input-to-output techniques can be used, where the pilot can move their arm to move the mechs' arm the same amount. This would not be possible with other designs.
- Maneuverability - a sprinting mech is simply faster than a tank or IFV at full speed. It can also swing around much quicker to respond to threats than the slow traverse of a traditional turret. They can use their body to crouch or etc in urban environments.
- Cool Factor - tanks are awesome, mechs are awesome too, why not have both? Neither replaces the other, each have very defined roles.
Disadvantages
- Open Spaces - Tanks and ATGMs will quickly destroy any mech in an open field. Large anti-material rifles have been developed for mechs to carry and lie down with, yet they are still nowhere near the effectiveness of a tank.
- Armor - Due to maneuverability requirements, mechs cannot have much armor.
- Expendability - In the modern battlefield of man-portable ATGMs and rocket launchers, mechs do not survive for very long.
- Accuracy - due to having to hold a weapon, and the complex dynamics of mech joints, they are not very accurate over 75m. Very inaccurate over 150m.
- Complexity - The many joints on a mech that must be maintained, plus needing to balance and be able to execute maneuvers like walking and running. Tanks and IFVs do not have to do this.
