Last Stand of the Simli Garrison

The NIF plans a limited operation to take over a CNSPAC garrison in the small citystate of Simli. Faced with overwhelming force, most of the Ceruleans were forced to surrender, as hoped. But unbeknownst to the NIF forces, a distress signal was being hurriedly transmitted in the radio room. Problem was, this operation was supposed to be kept under wraps until it could be revealed to CNSPAC. The NIF was not intending to take hostages or kill innocents, they only wished to demonstrate that they could survive without CNSPAC intervention. First in Simli, later across all of blue Nala. But until they could sweep and occupy the entire garrison, the surrendered would have to be held, so they couldn't reveal what was happening. That lasted a whole 5 minutes until a light patrol, having received the distress signal, rolled up to the garrison. Seeing the NIF soldiers and absent Cerulean presence, they promptly put two and two together and opened fire. So much for subtlety.

With overwhelming numerical advantage, the Nalans easily emerged victorious. Yet they were now seen as armed insurrectionists occupying a CNSPAC military installation. Over the next hours, more forces arrive from both sides, while the situation makes its way to the highest levels of CNSPAC command. With the garrison and city itself being underground, it would be virtually impossible for any external fire support to arrive. The escalating firefight is broadcast on every blue news network across Nala, while the encircled Ceruleans slowly run out of forces. Known as the Last Stand of the Simli Garrison, the Ceruleans are killed to a soldier, with many of the garrison personnel being killed or executed. While Simli has been freed of CNSPAC occupation, it has come at a heavy cost. The NIF absolutely did not intend to escalate this far, both because of how they would be seen in the public's eyes, and for fear of heavy CNSPAC retaliation. These fears would soon be realized.
