Sphinx

Sphinxes are regarded as the guardians of ancient knowledge, often created to protect lore of mages or kings. Their purpose is deeply tied to the mysteries of the gods or man, and each Sphinx is bound to uphold an ancestral pact to preserve these secrets.     Their upper body is human while their lower body matches that of a tiger. Sphinx's are created with their dungeons in mind; for example, a sky dungeon sphinx would have wings to allow them to traverse the dungeon easier, while a magic dungeon would have a more runic magically inclined sphinx.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Size: Sphinxes are similar in size to humans. Your size is Medium.   Speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet.   Sphinx's Insight: You have proficiency in the Insight skill.   Ancient Knowledge: Sphinxes have an innate connection to ancient lore and secrets. You have advantage on Intelligence (History) checks.   Riddlemaster: Sphinxes have a natural talent for riddles and puzzles. Once per long rest, you can cast the "Riddle of Confusion" feature which counts as a spell. Int, Wis or Cha is your spellcasting modifier for this spell.   Mystical Resilience: You have resistance against psychic damage.  

Sphinx Variants

Choose one of the following subraces, this determines which kind of Dungeon you are from;


SubraceFeatures
Sky Dungeon SphinxFlight: You have a flying speed equal to your walk speed. To use this speed, you can't be wearing medium or heavy armour.
Pyramid Guardian SphinxWarding Aura: As a bonus action, you can create a magical aura that extends 10 feet from you in all directions for 1 minute. Creatures within this aura have advantage on saving throws against being spells and magical effects. Once you use this ability, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
Arcane Dungeon SphinxArcane Insight: You have proficiency in the Arcana skill, and you can cast the Detect Magic spell at will, without expending a spell slot. If you should already have Detect Magic at will, then you can pick another first level divination spell to cast at will.
 

Riddle of Confusion

1-level Enchantment

Casting Time: 1 action
Range/Area: 30ft
Components: Verbal, Somatic
Duration: 1 minute
Attack/Save: Wisdom Save
You present a perplexing riddle to a creature you can see within range. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC 8 + your mental modifier + your proficiency bonus) or become confused. While confused, the creature rolls a d8 at the start of its turn to determine its behavior:
  • 1. The creature does nothing.
  • 2-4. The creature attacks a random creature within reach.
  • 5-6. The creature can act normally.
  • 7-8. The creature makes a melee attack against itself with disadvantage.
  •   The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.
 

Monstrous Evolution:

Sphinxes evolve by accumulating wisdom or solving ancient puzzles and riddles. Once they have collected enough wisdom or completed enough puzzles, they gain access to another form of magic that works with their Riddle-Master feature.

Lifespan
Sphinx live for as long as their Dungeon exists, their life force pulls from the dungeon core. Some have seen sphinx live for thousands of years.
Average Height
Between 4ft and 7ft tall.
