Bunyip
In the realms of the Faewild, where souls reincarnate, there are ancient spirits known as Soul Trees. These are mystical denizens that will one day become mortals within the mortal plane of magic. However, the Faewild is not without its dark corners, and even the most benevolent spirits could be tainted by malevolent forces.
Over years, as the Faewild's borders expanded and touched upon the darker, corrupted lands of the Shadowfell, some Soul Trees were drawn to these malevolent places. Corruption seeped into their essence, twisting their once-pure spirits into something altogether different. These corrupted Soul Trees, unable to return to the Faewild, are casted out and banished, forever changed. These banished spirits become the Bunyips, a race of beings that are barely tied to the lands from which they emerged.
Bunyips often have a dark or mottled appearance, reflecting the corruption they absorbed. Their bodies may display elements of their corrupted surroundings, such as gnarled features like twisted trees or scaled skin reminiscent of tainted waters. Their eyes often glow with an eerie light, a lasting effect of their exposure to the twisted magic of the Shadowfell or the lands they reside in now.
Even though they are outside of it they still maintain a connection to the Faewild, but it is forever tainted by their time in the Shadowfell. They often have a strong sense of duality within themselves, struggling to reconcile their dark origins with their connection to the natural world. This inner conflict can lead some Bunyips to seek redemption or to protect their adopted homes from further corruption of evil.
