Whispers of the Chained One
Shadows Over Luminara
Act 1: The Calling of Wildhorn
After a year of revelry and recognition in Wavebreak, the heroes find themselves at a crossroads. The thrill of their past adventures lingers, but the town’s politics and shifting narratives have left them restless. When an invitation arrives from Wildhorn—a town on the rise due to the construction of a skyport—they see an opportunity for something fresh. The message comes from Gazlowe, the eccentric tinker and merchant, who claims to have uncovered a mystery that only true adventurers can solve. He specifically contacts Hylv, as the two once crossed paths in Coalfell’s underground market. Hylv, always eager to collect rare trinkets, had previously assisted Gazlowe in identifying and appraising enchanted objects. Their relationship is built on mutual benefit, though Gazlowe remembers Hylv’s tendency to "forget" debts owed. Rumors speak of disappearing workers at the Wildhorn Skyport Construction Site, strange lights flickering atop the Old Widow’s Watchtower, and an unease that has settled over the town. Seeds for the Main Plot: The disappearances tie into something far older than Wildhorn’s ambitions. The Fighters’ Guild’s involvement raises questions about their motives and potential sabotage from unknown sources. A hidden force is manipulating Wildhorn’s fate, operating from the shadows.Act 2: Whispers Beneath the Surface
As the party investigates, they find that the disappearances coincide with strange phenomena. Skyport machinery malfunctions without explanation, wild animals flee the area, and those who look too closely either vanish or lose their sanity. They are approached by Captain Aldric Stonetide, a gruff former mercenary now working security at the skyport. He believes the missing workers are being taken underground, and he points them toward the abandoned silver mines beneath Wildhorn. However, locals warn them that the tunnels have been cursed ever since a mining collapse decades ago. Inside, they discover eldritch ruins, long buried beneath the land. Arcane carvings suggest an ancient presence, but before they can decipher more, they are ambushed by twisted creatures—former workers, warped into monstrous forms. Escaping the mines, the party finds that the attacks in Wildhorn have escalated. Someone—or something—knows they are getting close. Seeds for the Main Plot: The ruins predate human civilization in Luminara and whisper of an ancient force. The Coven of Eldritch Discord may have had a hand in recent events but remains elusive. Not all skyport engineers are what they seem. One of them carries a sigil marked with an unfamiliar rune.Act 3: The Veil Unfolds
A new threat emerges when Lady Margrith Valehart, a wealthy sponsor of the skyport project, arrives in Wildhorn. She demands that construction continue despite the disappearances. However, research into her background reveals contradictions—Lady Valehart should be dead, having perished in a shipwreck years ago. The party infiltrates her estate to uncover the truth, only to find ritual chambers beneath her manor. An old journal speaks of an expedition into the frozen north, where something was awakened beneath the ice. Meanwhile, the Old Widow’s Watchtower has become a hotspot of activity. An unknown force lures people there, and those who enter rarely return. The party must choose their next move carefully: investigate the Watchtower, confront Lady Valehart, or return to the mines for answers. Seeds for the Main Plot: Lady Valehart is a puppet of something far older than herself. The Coven of Eldritch Discord remains in the shadows, manipulating events. The Watchtower holds a key to what is influencing Wildhorn’s fate.Act 4: Echoes of the Forgotten
After uncovering Wildhorn’s hidden terrors, the party is forced to leave—either by pursuit, their own choice, or an orchestrated event. A new destination calls: Coalfell, the capital, where they can seek protection, answers, or revenge. Upon arrival, they find that Coalfell’s grand halls are no safer. The Coven of Eldritch Discord has infiltrated the highest levels of power, manipulating events from the shadows. Their influence stretches beyond Wildhorn, touching every major city in Luminara. The party must navigate the city’s layers of deception while staying ahead of unseen forces. They are not the only ones investigating Wildhorn’s events—others, including remnants of the Fighters’ Guild, are seeking answers, but their allegiance is uncertain. Seeds for the Main Plot: The Coven of Eldritch Discord is pushing for war to serve their dark god, Nyxaloth. An ally warns the party that they are being watched—by whom, they do not know. A noble family connected to Lady Valehart has gone silent. Their manor stands abandoned.Act 5: The Gathering Storm
Coalfell erupts into chaos. A murder at the royal palace throws the city into turmoil, and the party finds themselves at the center of the intrigue. A symbol found at the crime scene matches those in the ruins beneath Wildhorn. Clues point north, toward Mistwood, a town wrapped in mist and superstition. Bork Hammerfist, long thought lost, reappears, seeking the party’s aid. His travels have uncovered something terrifying, and he believes the key to stopping it lies within Mistwood’s ancient forests. The journey is fraught with danger—travelers vanish in the mist, spectral figures are seen watching from the trees, and something lurks beneath the waters of the Black Mirror Lake. Seeds for the Main Plot: The Coven of Eldritch Discord is fully aware of the party’s actions. The Elder Ruins of Mistwood reveal more than expected. The party is no longer just investigating—they are being hunted.Act 6: The Final Descent
What began in Wavebreak now reaches its climax in Coalfell. The Coven of Eldritch Discord moves to complete their ultimate ritual, bringing Nyxaloth’s will fully into the material world. The party must return to where it all began: the Ancient Ruins Beneath Wildhorn. The secrets buried there will unveil the true scope of what they face. However, their enemies will not let them act unopposed. As the final battle looms, the party must make impossible choices: Do they stand against the coming storm, or find a way to manipulate it? The fate of Luminara hangs in the balance. The Bright Lord’s Forgotten Legacy The Bright Lord was a being of light and fire, long believed to be a fallen deity or banished guardian. His myth is scattered across ruins and ancient texts, erased by those who feared his return. The Coven seeks to suppress his name, fearing his power. Yet, whispers of the Bright Lord's light remain in hidden sanctuaries, awaiting those who dare to seek them. His followers still exist, disguised as exiles and hermits. Some hold pieces of his shattered essence, waiting for the right moment to awaken the flame of the Bright Lord once more.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
