Starlight Haven Orphanage
Starlight Haven is a sprawling, timeworn building tucked away in the quieter quarterer of Coalfell, a three-story stone-and-timber building and a fenced yard where the children play resting slightly uphill from the clamor of the markets and foundries.
Its gray stone base is quarried from the same rock as the city’s mines, while the upper floors mix darkened timber beams and faded plaster that have seen generations of patchwork repair.
The roof is pitched and gabled, with weathered slate tiles, a crooked brick chimney stack, and small dormer windows peering from the attic.
Above the roofline, a lantern-lit rooftop garden glimmers faintly at night — glowing sigils woven into hanging lanterns create a gentle starlight glow visible even from nearby streets and it has an air of both safety and sorrow.
Locals often describe it as a beacon of calm in a city that rarely sleeps.
Its design is practical but has touches of warmth—bright curtains, carved wooden toys, and murals of stars painted on the ceilings.
Its halls echo with children’s laughter and the creak of old floorboards.
Locals whisper about strange things inside: warm lights when all candles are out, and the gentle sound of someone reading even in abandoned rooms.
