Cor Avaritia

(a.k.a. The Crimson Fox, The Heart of Greed, Theiflord, The Red Mist)

Heart of Greed

Two thousand years ago, when the rapacious dying breath of a king refusing to accept his natural limit finally ended, the strength of his will remained. The weave bent to this will, giving birth to a new figure. The enigmatic figure of Cor is known throughout the continents of Fehr'gia, less a criminal mastermind and more a chaotic force against structured law. An ethereal of bright red energy, little is known besides his endless lust for gold and his malicious intent. During his early years, he had managed to plunder countless relics and tombs, going so far as to steal the Heart of Highrock, a massive gem that served as a symbol of pride for the dwarven people. He has managed to steal an egg from the dragonic-heartlands of the Spiremaw, and some reports say he has even plundered the vaults of elemental and demon lords. In recent years, the "Heart of Greed" has settled down somewhat, with fewer accounts of his own crimes and more from his emboldened underlings. They say, lying somewhere in the heart of a repurposed tomb barbed and trapped by the greatest criminal mind in the history of creation, lies endless wealth for the fool hearty enough to take it.   While some say he commands a vast worldwide network of thieves and rogues across the world, very few actually believe it. Most assume he uses his near-infinite wealth to hire thugs who look smart enough to pull the caper off, while others say aspiring criminals invoke his name as a form of respect as if he was an old god of crime. With some of his feats, it would not be surprising if he had managed to climb to such a lofty height.

The Code Avarice

What is today's Thieves' Cant was developed by Cor in ancient times. It, and the proper conducting of oneself as a rogue, are taught in a manual penned by the Lordthief himself. Wanting to separate him and his ilk from the world of bandits and marauders, the prideful ethereal wrote his codex to teach generations to come. Generations later, a certain chivalrous code and unspoken law remain amongst the criminal underground. The book itself has such layers of depth and puzzles, that historians still have not deciphered all of its secrets even with aid from complying ne'er-do-wells. The journal has been replicated time and time again, with the first few handwritten copies still coveted by the most powerful crime lords.

The Unstable Force

Being by far the oldest ethereal, it has been suspected that his onset and age have led him to absorb far more knowledge than one was ever meant to know. Wizards and scholars have often discussed the seemingly short and fleeting lives of ethereals preventing them from absorbing too much information and eventually... losing themselves. Certain unsanctioned experiments have shown that even the most formidable and noble amongst the magic forms eventually corrupt and grow mad with age. Given that Cor is approximately 10 times older than the next confirmed oldest ethereal, his path along this trail to insanity is questioned.
