Odýsseia

Odysseus's bow that he restringed for Penelope's contest.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Odysseus, in proving his complete love for Penelope, made a show of effortlessly stringing his bow, which no one else was able to. In other words, Odysseus is someone adept at handling stringless bows. As a Noble Phantasm, it manifests as Odysseus shooting an "arrow of light" using neither string nor even a bow, in an act reminiscent of the gods of Olympus.[1]

Manufacturing process

Odysseus's bow was originally created with the help of Athena.

History

While Penelope was waiting for Odysseus to return she was presented with 108 men looking for her hand in marriage. To abade these suitors Penelope came up with several challenges, one of which was stringing Odysseus's bow & firing an arrow through tweleve axes. Penelope announces in her long interview with the disguised hero that whoever can string Odysseus's rigid bow and shoot an arrow through twelve axe shafts may have her hand. When the contest begins none of the suitors are able to string the bow. After all the suitors have given up, the disguised Odysseus asks to participate. Though the suitors refuse at first, Penelope intervenes & allows him to participate. Odysseus easily strings his bow & wins the contest. Having done so, he proceeds to slaughter the suitors.
