Fey Fungus.

The fey fungus growing all around the community was a good source of sturdy and insulating fabric. But with the community valuing the providers above all, it quickly adopted a waste-not attitude. Therefor the inventors researched other properties and possible uses for the fungus. It turned out that the fungus could be used as a food source, in dire circumstances, but that it also causes wild magic in those that consumed it. After the finishing of the wall and the disappearance of the chief’s son in summer, a project was set up by the inventors to figure our if the fey fungus could be used as a light source, or whether the wild magic could be used as an energy source. 22 weeks into this year, lanterns fueled by fey fungus were widely used along the walls and at every residence. The fungus, however, would betray those who had grown to trust it. Anything made of it, the lights, the clothing, the blankets, and the fields where it was cultivated, would turn against them. The fungus spread like a vicious mould and consumed plant, wood, even stone. It had to be burned back and eradicated thoroughly. With all other problems, this didn’t get full and well underway until the second month of autumn.
