Pelagean Archipelago

Located in the southern equatorial region of Farhome, the Pelagean Archipelago is the hub of all current human settlement on this new world. Given that the archipelago itself consists of thousands of islands of varying shapes and sizes the region is itself ample territory for colonisation. Mentor has ensured that the UNCV Far Horizons maintains geostationary orbit over the region in order to maintain observation and contact.

Currently the three major communities among the various settlements are:

• Freeport; de facto capital of the settlement by virtue of it having the only operational spaceport & thus giving it access to the UNCV Far Horizons, Freeport is a mix of easy living, decadence and golden beaches. When members of the skeleton crew seek shore leave they often elect to visit Freeport
• Bleak Harbour; the name is based on the fact that the chief surveyor who charted the area had just lost his child and partner as they were travelling en route to join him. Hence he dubbed the place Bleak Harbour, for while the locale has a beautiful aspect he felt nothing but sorrow. The name stuck.
• Port Tempest; is at the farthest end of the island chain. Noted for being in a region of storms, Port Tempest is a major hub of aquaculture, big game fishing and exploration out into the further reaches of Farhome; in particular the nearby Hesperian Isles. Rumour has it several expeditions have made major finds on the Hesperian's though none of this has been verified.

Between these three major settlements there are countless port towns and villages who rely upon them for support. And naturally in the interim all of these rely upon what aid Mentor and the UNCV Far Horizons can provide should the settlement be impacted via major disaster or some other catastrophe.

So far apart from season storms nothing major has happened to the settlement as a whole. There have been several communities that have suffered devastation over the years, but not on a scale that they could not recover from. The Pelagean Archipelago has its dangers but in comparison to what the colonists left behind on Earth, the island chain is a veritable paradise.

Affairs are managed by the Farhome Settlement Council (FSC) which is overseeing the settlement of the various islands but also the comprehensive charting, surveying and mapping of the island chain. ISC feels that its best the settlers get to know their immediate environs first and foremost. After the archipelago is comprehensively charted, mapped etc there are plans to being the same process with the nearby Hesperian's.
