Halcyon
In 2098 CE UNCV Far Horizons was launched fully equipped, crewed and outfitted bound for the Tau Ceti system 12 light years away. Unlike previous deep space colony vessels the Far Horizons had had its engines dramatically improved along with all the other onboard systems.
In 2112, at around the same time as Lazarus was underoing its Settlement Era, the Far Horizons reached Tau Ceti. Just as the vessel was manuevering into a stable orbit for colonisation to take place it vanished. And instead it emerged into a completely different system countless light years away from its original disembarkation point.
Mentor, the genius (AI) of Far Horizons reckoned that somehow the vessel had traveled at least a thousand light years in the space of a month. How that had happened it had no idea, it was in a nutshell inconceivable. Still in the new system it had found itself and its passengers and crew there was hope.
The new system, which mentor dubbed Halcyon, had two habitable planets. One such world which it dubbed 'Farhome' was in the sweet spot just like Earth. It was one astronomical unit away from its primary, it had two satellites and it appeared to be a perfect fit.
Mentor did not in passing that the other potential planet had signs of sentient life, but as the Far Horizon entered a parking orbit around Farhome there appeared to be no response from this planet situated at 1.4 AU from the primary Halcyon. Once in orbit around the new planet, Farhome, it began the standard procedures it was assigned to follow.
Currently the makeup of the Halcyon system is as follows:
- Halcyon (star - the primary)
- Asteroid belt - 0.3 AU
- Terrestrial planet - 0.7 AU
- Farhome - 1 AU
- "Refuge" - 1.4 AU
- Asteroid belt - 2.2 AU
- Jovian - 5.2 AU
- Jovian - 9.1 AU
- Terrestrial planet - 16.5 AU
There is no Kuiper Belt nor any presence of an Oort Cloud. So far the settlers are aware of these bodies as is Mentor, no names have been given to them. Halcyon and Farhome are the only names currently used. Diana and Aradia are the names used for Farhome's two moons. Diana is the largest of the two bodies.
