Princess of the Fae
In the darkness of the world's ancient days, long before beastmen walked across the realms, there is what would become the lands of the fae, a faerie was born. Her birth taking place at twilight under a shroud of sorrowful rain. The silver babbling streams ran hither and dither through the great trees of the land that would become known as The Broicaide. The faeries there, earth, air, water, fire and spirit watching with awe as their once and future queen was born.
The child, was given the name Aelyriel. Fair and beautiful she was with hair of flaxen gold, dappled eyes of emerald and gentle swirls of rosettes seemingly like flowers scatter across her alabastor skin. Yet with a mischievious glimmer in her eyes, her laugh could be both happy or cruel. Aelyriel was a happy child both loved and adored by all of faerie kind.
Most of all she was loved by her parents who doted on her giving her the best of all things possible. A fine education, elegant clothing, the best of food and wise men from over the world were brought to teach and tutor her. Alas it was not to last.
The humans who lived in what would become the Empire of Tolenestria entered the realm of the fae, there upon for reasons unknown, they took to battle and slew Aelyriel's parents. A great sorrow filled Aelyriel and wave of melancholy fell across the land. While some of the fae sought to close the borders and create barriers which would lead the humans astray through confusion and misdirection, others, more militant entreated for revenge, a killing of the humans.
Time passed and Aelyriel considered and listened to the elders for advice, though she found no comfort or guidance. Coming of age, she was expected to marry and continue the line. The most noble knights of each side, those wanting to hide away from the humans and those wishing to go to war came to entreat Aelyria and win her hand. Aelyria turned both side down.
Seeking the peace and comfort that she could only find in her mother's garden, Aelyria took to ink and parchment instructing the nobles of both sides to work together until she was through her period of mourning. Aelyria then lay down amongst the roses of every hue imaginable and fell into a slumber. Her sleep continues until this day, both sides waiting for her to awaken and choose her companion. Alas the nobles and knights of the two factions did not heed the last request of Aelyria. They turned upon one another, not in true war, but in deception and trickery. Thus were born the Seelie and Unseelie courts.
