Chet Throckmorton

Chet Throckmorton hails from the dark depths of the Rudari Mines, in his home of Bedo'Lead, a name that overstated the actual size of the town itself. The town of Bedo'Lead held little variation when it came to the types of lives people lived within the crevices of the Rudari Cliffs. Chet grew up along side the rest of his family and never considered the outside world to be a possible home for him, as he was told of all the dangers that lied just beyond the cave's entrance.   His mother spoke of The Pale's slow approach and consumption of all things within, the white gold figures to the north of once brave adventurers, and the Nameless Shard that rose the once normal land of Rudari into the sky. He lived in fear of what the future held for him and his people within the town. It seemed that at all sides of the world there were forces ready to rip him to shreds within seconds if he dared to step out of the mine.   This constant fear kept him bound to the mines until his later adulthood, where he made a chance encounter in the mine-ways with his vital new friend that would show him what the world truly had in store for him. That friend being a Water Genasi named "Sebastian". It was him who taught Chet of the wonders of the world through swimming and surfing in local cave lakes and even spots of the ocean shore. The three years they spent together had entirely altered Chet's mind, so he adapted to Sebastian's way of life.   However, there was one part of the outside he never got to see. He could not see the starry night as he was still within town, and had only managed to barely keep his outings with Sebastian as a secret. If he were to spend any amount of time during the night, there would definitely be red flags raised. His mother's overprotectiveness would keep him caged to the areas of the mine where she knew he would be. He spent every night gazing to the ceilings in a desperate attempt to imagine what the starry night could look like. All he could muster was a few glowworms and little else.   Sebastian could see Chet's eyes droop whenever they had to part for the day, so he made a promise that they could float along the ocean current gazing upon the night sky. That promise filled Chet with determination unlike anything ever seen in his life before. His usual lazy nature shifted to that of a pure productive mindset and he pushed for his freedom through his work in the mines. After a year of struggle, he had finally garnered enough wealth to live on his own, and he made the plans with Sebastian to meet at the shore.   As the sun had set over the horizon, a glimmer of hope shown across Chet's face as the sky darkened above him. Sebastian and Chet both just laid there for minutes, even hours on end in pure bliss of the stars above. Chet had never felt so happy in his life, and it was the culmination of all his work, but it could not last so long as he hoped.   He noticed an eerie silence from where Sebastian once floated, and the realization set in. Chet immediately rushed to where he last saw Sebastian and found his friend's unresponsive body in the water. He rushed to his town and plead for help, but no matter who it was, it was clear that Sebastian's condition was unknown to the people of the mines. For the first time in his life, he prayed not for his own protection, but for that of his dear friend, but he found no response from any of the gods, even Ia and Ilaoi remained silent. He grew devastated day after day, unable to go a moment without thinking of a way to save Sebastian. It all concluded on one day when the entire town agreed that he was unable to be saved, but Chet still pushed for him to be taken care of, and his word was respected.   That was until he met a mysterious Elf by the name of Arlen. He saw the distraught nature of Chet and offered spiritual consulting through the path of the All-Mother. At first Chet thought that this was just another god to let him down, but he was informed by Arlen that the All-Mother held the powers of pure creation, and could possibly save his friend's life from whatever ailment he suffered. Just this once he would regain his faith in a god, and he set out of the mines to gain her favor as a Cleric of Life and save Sebastian from his state.
