Money / Capital

What is money like in Faetalia?   This is a question we get often, and it's taken us a while to figure out. Generally, in Faetalia, we'd like to lean as far away from capitalistic systems as possible and as far into more communal systems.   For a long time, the server has used "gold" as its monetary system. However, this often led to the idea that wealth equates to status, creating a divide between "richer" and "poorer" fairies. We want to avoid this disparity so that all fairies can stand on more equal footing.   However, themes of status and nobility can still be fun elements to play around with in storytelling, and we don't want to take that possibility away. Fairies could still grow up more "well-off" than others, and have more material goods. However, status would be defined more by popularity than by wealth. It could be built through recognition, such as having your name known, starting a successful business, or gaining a good reputation among fellow fairies.   For example, the Royals hold significant status. While they may possess many material goods, most of their prestige comes from being prominent families for generations. This status originally stemmed from their greater importance in earlier times, but that has since diminished significantly. Now, the most they are is glorified celebrities, and many of them put in effort to make sure they "share the wealth".   But, how does a fairy go about accessing material goods? Introducing the Trading and Bartering system, which will be used for accessing goods and services.
