House Cassalanter
The Cassalanters were a noble family in Waterdeep and considered one of the richest families in the city-state. They made their fortune in banking, money lending, and rumor-mongering to the highest bidder.
However, all their success would come crumbling down in 1492 DR when the current Lord and Lady of the house would attempt to repay their deal to Asmodeus, liquidating a dangerous amount of their assets and drawing a lot of attention. In the end, Ammelia and most of their servants would be slain during their attempted coup, with Victorio forced to flee to parts unknown.
Assets
Resource Limit: If necessary, House Cassalanter could probably generate about 54,000 gp in liquid coin and valuables within a month
They were known to have their fingers in several banks and mercenary companies as well. Additionally, they owned the House of the Swan, a villa in the Sea Ward.
Following the Founder's Day Massacre, many of their assets have been sized by the Guard and the mercenary companies scattered. The House of the Swan was given to House Grubber as a reward for their help in the saving of the various nobles.
History
House Cassalanter were ennobled in 1248 DR, when the Lords of Waterdeep recognized several merchant houses and granted them noble titles and seals.
In 1370 DR a skeleton wearing the colors of House Cassalanter was seen attacking several citizens. With the incident attracting unfavorable attention from the Lords of Waterdeep, they hired a lone adventurer to go deep into the old family crypt and see what was going on. After slaying a few more undead the adventurer found a necromancer who was responsible for the whole affair, acquiring a hefty reward for his head.
Despite their abilities, the Cassalanters was still a relatively middling family in the eyes of the nobles until 1398 DR when one of the Masked Lords stepped forward and unmasked himself as the Open Lord, revealing himself to be Caladorn Cassalanter, a cousin of the Patriarch of the time. With that, the Cassalanter's star began to shine brightly.
While the Cassalanters suffered along with everyone else during the Wailing Years, Ammalia and Victorio Cassalanter began to miraculously recover the family's fortunes. While there was a brief dip following the tragedy of Osalvo's disapperance, the family seemed to preservere.
However, this would all come to an end during the Founder's Day Massacre. Ammalia and Victorio seemed to try to sacrifice a thousand vagrants along with a thousand gold to their dread lord Asmodeus in order to save the souls of their two children, along with launching a coup in Waterdeep. While the sacrifice would go off without a hitch, the souls would be apparently be intercepted by the budding Death Curse causing their twins' souls to be taken by the Lord anyway. Along with that, many of the staff would perish with the group of adventurers under the banner of House Grubbers along with Hand of the Open Lord 'Smoker' hunting down the two heads of the family.
Ammalia would be found slain by the Pirate Lieutenant Sloth, her two twins taken by him as well. Victorio would end up fleeing, but during the brief battle between him and the party, the remaining two members of the family would be taken out by a fireball launched by Luna Freya.
Disbandment
Following the Founder's Day Massacre, Victorio being branded as a criminal and the rest of the family dead or missing the Noble House would be declared extinct. There was brief hope that either Ammalia's uncle or cousin would be able to keep the family going but unfortunately, both were found dead, burnt to a crisp in the crypt while wearing cult robes.
