Sun Elf

Sun elves (ar-tel-quessir in Elvish, also known as gold elves and high elves) are a race of elves. Sun elves have historically been responsible for the construction of many of the great elven cities across Faerûn, such as Myth Drannor. Over time, however, most have relocated from the mainland to the distant isle of Evermeet, leaving few of their kind in Faerûn. Those that remain tend to live in close-knit communities away from other races in elven-majority settlements (such as Myth Drannor or Silverymoon). These communities are often ruled by a monarch or nobility, tracing their lineage back to the ancient elven kingdoms.

Sun elves view elven culture (in particular, their own culture) as being superior, and themselves as being Corellon's chosen people. This, along with their isolationism, leads many non-elves to view them as haughty, arrogant, and even supremacist. Many sun elves are content with this view, if they even care what non-elves think of them. They are deliberate and patient, taking as much time as they need to hone their skills for any particular endeavour in order to achieve perfection. Sun elves have a strong love of art, such as poems, paintings, and especially grand architecture.

Sun elves are among the most skilled practitioners of magic in Faerûn. The pinnacle of sun elf wizards still know the secrets of elven high magic, incredibly powerful spells exceeding even traditional 9th-level spells in power. This magic is rarely used due to its risks, and never shared with other races. Sun elven craftsmen are supremely skilled, with the best of their number rivalling dwarven smiths (albeit many times slower in output). In battle, sun elves prefer arms and armour of the highest quality, particularly equipment made from mithral and richly decorated. With their magical knowledge and skill, they prefer to use magic or blend it with a blade over more crude methods of warfare.
