In the year 35 BR the dwarves of clan Melairkyn came to Mount Waterdeep to found a mine they named Melairbode, Undermountain in commom. They later allied with the elves of Illefarn. In time Undermounain grew into a sprawling city of dwarven kind.

Military actionThe drow senescing weakness in Undermountain attacked in force taking slaves and mithril from the weakened dwarves. They would establish outposts and 'embassies' in Undermountain.

Sacking of The Duergar
Military actionIn the year 234 DR a force of Duergar emerging from the Underdark attacked Undermounain. Both groups Fought a grueling tunnel war leaving thousands dead on both sides. In the end timely intervention from the Melairkyn´s elven allies helped them win but much embitterment was gained from being forced to call on help.

Halaster Comes to Undermounain
Life, RelocationThe first appearance of the Mad Mage in written records comes from the year 403 when he arrived with seven apprentices to mount Waterdeep. He summoned and then bound a army of fiends to construct his tower. The dwarves of Undermountain beveled that having a conventicle of Wizards above them would offer them magical protection. The fiends were written off as a pragmatic use of power to speed up construction.

Halaster Constructs His Tower
Construction beginning/endHalaster upon arriving at Mount Waterdeep with his apprentices began construction of his tower. It was to act as their home and base of research. To speed up the construction Halaster summoned and bound a small army of fiends to act as builders.

Halaster Assaults Undermountain
Disaster / DestructionAfter construction was completed Halaster turned his sights to Undermountain. First he invited the leaders of clan Melairkyn to speak with him, then he slaughtered them. No one knew what happened until the Nalfeshnee broke down the doors. What followed was a desperate stand by the dwarves of clan Melairkyn lasting only eight hours. When the dust settled only a handful of dwarves survived, those who fled into the Underdark or happened to be on the surface at the time.

FoundingIn the year 1032 DR the city of Waterdeep was officially founded. It had been a trading town for years but with the crowning of Lord Ahghairon the first Lord of Waterdeep it was made official. Unbenounced to all, the town they had founded on the base of Mount Waterdeep was in actuality constructed above the ruins of Undermountain.

The Reveal of Halaster
Life, PublicityOn a pleasant summer day in the main market square of Waterdeep people were going about their day. Kids were playing, flowers were blooming, then a black dragon burst from the ground. This sudden sight was followed by Halaster flying after the dragon, he then teleported the dragon away. Then he floated down to the awed onlookers apologized for the interruption and the mess, before flying down back into the hole. The lords of Waterdeep then sent a band of adventurers into the newly revealed Undermountain. They were never heard from again.

FoundingIn the year 1306 DR the retired adventurer Durnan built the Yawning Portal over the hole to Undermountain. He funded construction using treasure gathered from his own expeditions into Undermountain.

Political Turmoil in Menzoberranzan
Celestial / CosmicDuring the Time of Troubles the already unstable power balance of Menzoberranzan was shattered when Loth disappeared for a time. Multiple houses fled the city with some entering Undermountain. Now they are seeking to concur the Underhalls and create a new drow city there. Halaster is having none of that.

Death of Halaster?
Diplomatic actionIn 1371 DR Halaster, in his infinite wisdom, decided to create a clone of himself and infect it with leprosy. For some reason. He then left the corpse in the ally between Wyvern and Hag street for the Watch to find. This lead to wide spread guessing that Halaster was dead. The deception was reveled next year when Halaster threw a parade on his birthday through Waterdeep.

Halaster's Birthday Parade
Life, PublicityA year after Halaster was said to be dead he revealed that we was not. He reveled that by throwing a missive parade compete with a giant float with his head on it breathing fire. The city of Waterdeep had to be evacuated while the monsters he brought with him for the parade ran amuck in the city.
