The Ruins of Ashguard
The Ruins of Ashguard was once the capital of the mighty Ashguardian Empire. Once a bastion of peace and prosperity, the Ashguardian Empire slowly fell into unbecoming cruelty and inbreeding within the royal family. From the coast, the ruins could be passed by. The sleek silver metal that makes up the crumbling buildings runs right into the ground, almost blending in. The city was once a coastal city, with most of its trade and prosperity coming from sea-fare. From the land, one, when approaching the Ruins of Ashguard, could make out spires of glass 50 feet tall that are stuck in the ground. Upon getting closer to the Ruins, one can see a variety of buildings that shoot straight into the air, with a cyberpunk feel to the style. There is a fog that permeates the entirety of the Ruins.
Purpose / Function
The city of Ashguard was once a thriving city in Ezrion. It has stood the test of time, mainly because of the thick metal that was used in its constructions. It has seen the Age of Masters, the age of Gods Among Men, the age of the Elemental Chaos, the Age of Heroes, and, of course, the Ashguardian Empire. It is now the home of the Necromancer, Larloch, who is trying to revive the denizens of Ashguard and achieve the cities former glory.
Architecture
The Ruins of Ashguard was once made of a sleek silver metal that was virtually impenetrable. Ashguard had a port with a city in the Underdark which produced Deepslate, a dark metal-like substance that is thicker and tougher than average stone. It was melded by the skilled blacksmiths and imbued with magic from the wizards of the Age of Masters to help with its resilience. Now, remnants of the once-grand city still stand, but only remnants. The silver Deepslate has faded and corroded, it's magic long-gone.
Defenses
Now that the city is considered a ruin, the only defenses are the denizens who still live in the Ruins of Ashguard. Undead who used to claim Ashguard as home still roam the streets of the city.
History
The founder of Ashguard is unknown, as the city goes so far back that many documents of Ashguard's early years are lost to historians. What is known from the early days of Ashguard is that Sir William Koth was born in the town and later became the first Emperor of the Kothian Empire.
Under Koth's rule, Ashguard was elevated to a place of great importance. Mol Buldhar stayed the capital of the Kothian Empire, but Ashguard was second to the capital. Under the Kothian Empire, the city of Ashguard became the center of trade across Ji.
After the collapse of the Kothian Empire, Ashguard was thrown into relative obscurity. During the Gods Among Men Age, Ashguard was little more than another city that was declining in favor. The religious zealousness leftover from the Kothian Empire did not leave a good impression of Ashguard with the Gods.
During the Age of the Elemental Chaos, Ashguard was once again a bastion of safety and military prowess. Loa, in the Windy Isles, Mol Buldhar, in Aronia, and Qarth, in Draquarth, were among the few cities in Ezrion, along with Ashguard, that did not fall.
The Ashes of Ashguard
They say there once was a beau of the land, That gave to the wind, and the sea, and the sand, This beau did not dwell on her goals, But gave to the people all her soul. This beau governed all her people well, But in the end, she fell. (You must tell!) Her name was Ashguard through and through, And in her demise, she trusted a few. She trusted a beast of wings and fire, And a tenday later, the city crier: "The beau of this land has met her demise, And the beast shows not but guilt in his eyes!" So, there is the story of the beau of this land, That gave to the wind and the sea and the sand. This beau started losing her sense of control, And fell from grace, giving her soul.
