"Wretches" - an old term used by the Norse for the First Nations people of Eydraumr

Skrælingi (lit. "wretch") is the term originally used by the Norse of Eydraumr to refer to the First Nations tribes they encountered. Some of the earliest uses of this term date back to Leif Erikson's original expeditions into the Americas, and it is featured in the works of Alvar Erlandsson. It is currently used by the Norse of Eydraumr to refer to the Mi'kmaq and Abenaki peoples of Eydraumr.
