Hades & Persephone

Marriage

15000BF

Lonely within the Underworld, Hades became enthralled by the beautiful Persephone. After watching her from afar for aeons, he eventually made time to approach her within the Feywild and attempt to woo her. But his attempts fell short, as the overprotective Demeter, who coddled her youngest daughter Persephone, sensed Hades intentions and disapproved of a relationship between him and her daughter, sending Hades away.

But Persephone was not deterred. Charmed by his words, Persephone approached Hades in secret, and after many secret meetings a romance blossomed between the two Gods. But Persephone soon grew tired of secrecy, and knowing her mother would never approve, she fled to the Underworld to be with Hades.

Believing that Persephone had been kidnapped, Demeter flew into a depression, plunging Exorsia into a devastating famine, as she searched for her daughter, leading to the Underworld becoming overrun with dead.

Only with the aid of Hecate was Demeter able to locate her daughter within the Underworld, but Persephone did not want to return. It was only when a compromise was made to appease Demeter, did the famine end. Persephone agreed to spend half the year, the Spring and Summer with her mother, and the other half of the year, Autumn and Winter, within the Underworld with Hades, and in exchange, Demeter would consent to their union.

And so Persephone was crowned Queen of the Underworld, to rule by Hades' side. From this union, within the Underworld they gave birth to Hermes, the Messenger of the Gods.
