The Ages of Exorsia

The history of our universe is long, and much of it is lost. Even before the Fall of Arcanum, the early parts of our history seem to have been obscured in mystery, with scholars pondering the same questions that we do now. While we do not know for certain, it is widely accepted that our history is split into six distinct eras. From the Creation to the Modern Era.

Creation

The Creation, or the Beginning is an unknown time period spanning from the very creation of the universe to the Golden Age, with some estimating it to be many billions of years ago. During this time we have the birth of the Primordial gods and the creation of the Divine Realms. Almost all of our knowledge of this age comes from the Theogony, one of the few surviving texts from the Fall of Arcanum.

Golden Age

The Golden Age is believed to span around 300,000 years. Beginning with the birth of the first Dragons, from Bahamut and Tiamat, and the birth of the first mortals, the Elves of the Feywild. This Age is also when the Gigantonomy takes place, the war between the gods and the children of the traitorous primordial Gaia . 

The Golden Age is believed to be a time of peace and prosperity, where the gods lived among the Elves, observing them and eventually teaching them. Though there is no evidence of this, only ancient speculation. Most of our knowledge of this age also comes from the Theogony, one of the few surviving texts from the Fall of Arcanum.

Silver Age

The Silver Age is believed to span around 30,000 years. It is where Exorsia begins to get mentioned in the histories. We know from carbon dating that the planet is older than a million years old, so it is unknown why it took so long to appear, with many competing theories over the reason.

During the Silver Age we get our first accounts of Dwarves as well as Primitive Humans. Elves and Dragon also begin making their home on Exorsia, leading to the Dragon-Elf War that raged for over 6,000 years.

Bronze Age

The Bronze Age, sometimes called the Age of Heroes, lasted around 12,000 years. With many legends of great heroes and demigods coming from this time period. Humans also rose to prominence during this age, becoming one of the dominant species on Exorsia. 

The Bronze Age is also when the brutal Exorsian Civil Wars took place, leading to the Divine Truce, with the Gods agreeing to no longer directly interfere in the events of the Material World.

Age of Arcanum

The Age of Arcanum lasted around 3,000 years. It was a period of rapid technological and magical advancement, with the creation of great magical feats as well as devastating tragedies. Mortals, particularly humans, grew exceptionally powerful during this Age, eventually growing bold enough to challenge the gods themselves. Leading to the Fall of Arcanum and nearly the end of mortal life. But instead the gods created the Divine Gate, preventing mortals from ever achieving that level of magical power and also preventing the gods and other celestial beings from interacting with the world.

The Modern Era

The Modern Era spans from after the Fall of Arcanum to the present day, with the people of Exorsia rebuilding society after the destruction and near extinction that came during the Fall.
