Ahmzarath (Am-Za-Rith)

The lands now known as Naz-Lazgorn were once home to beautiful forests full of life. There, in this vast expanse of wilderness, lived Elves who had migrated through the mountains from the Forests of Brokys. However, this Elven Kingdom would eventually become cursed through a bargain gone wrong made between the royal court and Asmodeus’ Infernal Tribunal. This curse would cause the Elves of the Forest to take on more Diabolic traits, becoming the first Ahmzaraths. These Ahmzaraths would shed their Fae Ancestry and become bound to the depths of Ahrmaz. Because of this, Elves and Ahmzarath tend to not get along as much as Elves view Ahmzaraths as going against the natural order of the world. This, along with the predilection of Ahmzarath to pursue a more evil way of being due to their cursed nature and the prejudice they have faced by other species, have caused Ahmzaraths to tend to shy away from the Empires and stick to the Conclaves, or reside in their motherland of Naz-Lazgorn. Ahmzaraths come in a variety of different colors, shapes, and sizes based on who currently is siring their bloodline. To sire a bloodline, a Greater Devil must offer the Ahmzarath a contract bound in blood stating that they will provide them certain boons in order for them and their future children to entrust their worship and souls to the Devil. Despite this, Sire Lines can be broken or changed, though this can vary greatly in how this is accomplished depending on the nature of the contract and how long ago it was made. Sire Line Contracts are valid 666 years before they must be renegotiated by the current head of the bloodline. When two Ahmzarath of different Sire Lines want to have children, they must appeal to the Infernal Tribunal for permission. During this meeting, the Ahmzaraths and Devils bargain which Sire Line the child will be a part of, usually offering sacrifices and compensation to the Devil whose Sire Line the child will not be a part of. Otherwise, two Ahmzaraths from different Sire Lines cannot produce children.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Ahmzarath resemble Elves in body shape, often possessing more slender body frames. However, Ahmzarath do possess obvious devilish influences in their form. These being horns that protrude out of their skull; a spiny tail; rough, course skin; and a slight glow in their eyes.

Genetics and Reproduction

Ahmzarath cannot reproduce with another Ahmzarath of a different Sire Line without appealing to the Infernal Tribunal. However, Ahmzarath can reproduce with other Ahmzarath that share a Sire Line, and there have even been documentations of Half-Ahmzarath children, though this seems to only be possible between Ahmzarath and Elves.   The reason for this rigid structure of reproduction is due to the Sire Lines, specifically to help determine which Sire Line the baby Ahmzarath will enter into. Thus, to mitigate conflict, when two Ahmzarath of different Sire Lines desire a child, the Infernal Tribunal decides which Sire Line the child will enter into.   In terms of actual pregnancy, the period in which a female Ahmzarath is pregnant is only 66 days. However, during this time, Ahmzarath mother's experience excruciating pain as child pulls at their very soul, taking their magic. Furthermore, if the other parent is an Ahmzarath, they too will experience pain, yet not to the same degree.   While female Ahmzarath are the only ones capable of carrying a child, a male Ahmzarath is not needed in order to achieve pregnancy.

Growth Rate & Stages

Ahmzarath mature and grow at the same rate as Humans and Elves and socially are seen as teenagers when they reach about 15 years of age and are not seen as adults until they reach around 25 years of age.   Ahmzarath go through life stages in the same fashion as Humans and Elves. Ahmzarath can often reach upwards of 150 years old.   While most Ahmzarath go through life as mundane individuals, never fully exploring the true potential of their Sire Line, those that dedicate themselves to their Sire Line often can experience great rewards from their Sire Line's master.

Ecology and Habitats

Like Elves, age is not as harsh on an Ahmzarath's body as it is on Humans.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Ahmzarath require food and water in the same way that Elves and Humans do.

Behaviour

While Ahmzarath do have the freedom to choose any lifepath, many are either indoctrinated into Cults as children or take a less-than-noble lifestyle due to the prejudice they experience in their life. However, there are also many who decide to make their own path in life, either joining Human Society or creating their own.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Although many consider the Ahmzarath's existance a cursed, this cursed does grant them many extraordinary abilities. Ahmzarath's eyes have been magically enhanced, allowing them to see through darkness. Additionally, due to their Sire Lines, Ahmzarath have access to the powers of Ahrmaz as long as they accept their place as the playthings of Greater Devils.

History

It is believe that the first Ahmzarath and the corruption of Naz-Lazgorn happened roughly 2275 years after the Elven Exodus and roughly 2100 years before the First Era of Dol'Nivia. For the first couple hundred years, the Ahmzarath were relatively unknown to the denizens of Dol'Nivia, most species believing the Elves that once resided in Naz-Lazgorn to have fallen to some dark corruption. In fact, the decades leading up to the corruption, the Northern Elves of Naz-Lazgorn (called Syngarys at that time) were experiencing major ecological strife due to an imbalance in the natural world. This imbalance is believed to have stemmed from the Elves attempting to take too much from the earth, and thus they needed to turn to other forces in order to stay standing. It is known that the Syngarian Elves did request aid from the Brokyian Elves. However, the Elves declined due to fears of upsetting the natural balance. However, after contact was made, and the Elves discovered the Ahmzarath, relations were not able to be made as the Ahmzarath blamed the Elves for what they were forced to do because the Elves refused them aid. This lead to the very first Elven conflict known as Alwarys'Dylvanysh (or the Devil's Battles in common). When looking at historical archives as well as archeological findings, this conflict appears to have been mostly small skirmishes around the borders of the mountains to the North with a few more serious battles wage. However, it ultimately resulted in no land being taken on either side and only served to further divide the two nations.   For the next few millennia Ahmzarath would mostly keep to themselves, expanding their civilation, and creating a sudo-conclave whose capital was the city of New Syngarys. Through this expansion, it is known that the Ahmzarath encountered the Erizzon, though much of the documentation of those encounters were lost to the ages. However, their relations were good enough to have them both join forces under the banner of Morganath.   Once the First Era began, the Ahmzarath had very few dealings with the Humans. However, none of these dealings were pleasant. The animosity from both the Elves and the Humans is believed to have been the cause of the Ahmzarath joining forces with Morganath. The Ahmzarath lent their aid to the rising Tyrant, an act that would see much of their civilization collapse. By the end of the Dark Lord's war, the Ahmzarath who lived in Naz-Lazgorn had been forced to scurry back into their cursed land and remain their, else they should face execution.   The Ahmzarath rebuilt as they could, becoming even more reliant on the masters of their Sire Lines. This desperation led them to follow the Children of Asmodeus, those being Daegoth, Ramyzelle, and Azaizal. This saw a split in the Ahmzarath with many Ahmzarath leaving with the Children of Asmodeus. Those who did not want to fight more battles stayed within the confines of Naz-Lazgorn, losing much of their power. This shift in power would cause the Ahmzarath who stayed to stop worshiping the Infernal Tribunal and put their faith in the old Dol'Nivian Gods once again.   When the Children of Asmodeus fell, some Ahmzarath retreated back to Naz-Lazgorn, while some made the joruney to the Ona Marsh and worked with other shunned species (such as Lizardfolk) to create the city of Kotana. The Ahmzarath turned this village into a refuge for wandering souls, distancing themselves from the Infernal Tribunal and adopting the ways of the Swamp. The Ahmzarath here would make contact with the Marshfoot Halfling who acted as caretakers of the swamp and incorporate their beliefs into their culture. The Ahmzarath of the Ona Marsh are said to have even been graced with a meeting with the Lady of the Swamp, Baba Yilsildt.   Those that returned back to Naz-Lazgorn were seen as villains in the eyes of the greater Ahmzarath populous that had now been freed of the Infernal Tribunals influence. Thus the returning Ahmzarath were banished to the Scarred Lands (the lands where Morganath is said to have crafted his dark magic). These banished Ahmzarath would return to the Scarred Lands and create a new City out of the remnants of an old Morganathian Fortress which they named the Lucifar.   For the rest of the 2nd Era, the Ahmzarath would be fractured but all three sects would work to establish themselves once again. The Ahmzarath of New Syngarys would see some minor conflicts between themselves and the Ahmzarath of Lucifar but this would not escalate into anything more than skirmishes and a few raids conducted by the Ahmzarath from Lucifar. The only major event that would occur would be the Lucifarian Ahmzarath entering the capital of New Syngarys in secret. Thankfully for the New Syngarys Ahmzarath, they were discovered and thus stopped whatever plan they had in place.   When the Koth-Meander War would break out at the start of the 3rd Era, the Ahmzarath that lived in New Syngarys would unite with other species and help in the creation of a neutral Conclave, what would eventually become the Thamar Conclave. The creation of this Conclave would see most Ahmzarath who lived in New Syngarys leaving, with only religious sects staying to take care of their history. The Ahmzarath from Lucifar had not been seen for some time and were thought to have either escaped to Ahrmaz or died off. The Kotanian Ahmzarath flourished and the Ahmzarath species lost much of the stigma around their people. Although some Elves and Humans still bore some racism towards them.   During the 4th Era, the Thamarian Ahmzarath were pivotal in ensuring a second Koth-Meander war did not commence. In Kotana, the Ahmzarath there helped bring the denizens of the Ona Marsh onto the Council of Aurel. This time saw many Ahmzarath gain enough courage to journey into the bigger Empires and make a place for themselves there.   In the 5th era, the Ahmzarath of Kotana have been recently dealing with the Rising Dawn religious group that has attempted to take over the city.   During Godfall and the 5th Era, there have been reports of Ahmzarath partaking in a Shadow organization known as the Cult of Asmodeus. While the greater populous is apparently unaware, the groups known as the Wanadead and the United along with the Knight of Ris and their allies have begun fighting back against these Ahmzarath.
