The Silence of Verrian Kael

A Personal Account of a Failed Visioning

Verrian Kael was once destined to wear the indigo mantle of the Magister Prima. His name was etched in provisional ink within the Codex Vault. His record — unbroken, his rulings — precise, his intellect — revered. But when he knelt beneath the Rift Moon within the Oculus Tharaxis, something within the Rite did not return with him.

This account, recovered from the journal of Magister Alrin Dax, who stood as Second Witness during the Visioning, survives only due to its inclusion in the private Tribunal archives. It is not quoted publicly, and to speak Kael’s name in the Riftwatch Quarter is considered... impolite.

Aftermath

Kael did not die, but neither did he return to service. His soul was... muted. He was relocated to the Monastery of Still Ash beneath Mount Vardun, where he lives under Arcanii observance.

His case was the second failed Visioning in known history. Eloria later refined the Seal Protocols to prevent recurrence, though she has never elaborated on what she saw that night.
