The Free Concord of Targaleth
"We are not born beneath thrones—we are born beneath stars."
The Free Concord of Targaleth is a rising federation of arcane republics, liberated enclaves, and scholar-led territories that has, within less than a century, evolved from a fractured rebellion into the most likely successor to imperial hegemony. Formed during the aftermath of the Third Rift Cycle, the Concord now spans multiple Riftshore zones and openly rivals the Empire in magical innovation, economic adaptability, and nonhuman integration.
Targaleth's strength lies not in conquest, but in unity through ideology: a belief that power must be distributed—not hoarded. It is a realm defined by cognitive democracy, arcane licensing by merit rather than blood, and diplomatic transparency enforced by binding oaths of public resonance.
Structure
Each member territory maintains autonomy, but sends delegates to the central Assembly. Power is diffused, with Concordant roles rotating by rite and resonance-weighted merit.
Culture
Ideologically arcane-democratic, strongly individualist yet collectively bonded through ritual oaths. Artistic and technological expression is encouraged, especially through collaborative spellwork and public archives.
Public Agenda
To model an alternative to imperial dominance—emphasizing shared sovereignty, regulated magical access, and interspecies enfranchisement. Opposes Arcanii exclusivism and imperial censorship.
Assets
- Codex Lattice Arrays
- Riftsteel production guilds
- Aetheric trade fleets
- Standing Pactguard militia
- Codex Vaults (independent)
History
Founded in the wake of the Cascading Sundering of 312 AR, Targaleth was originally a scattered patchwork of mage-safe havens and freed vassal towns. Its formal unification came in 471 AR, after the failed Imperial Siege of Vael'theras. The Concord expanded rapidly through mutual defense treaties and Lattice-sharing accords.
Demography and Population
Predominantly Elven (Eladrin and Wood), with strong enclaves of Half-Elves, Riftborn, and Arcbound; total estimated population ~6.2 million across 14 provinces
Territories
Stretches across former imperial Riftshore provinces and reclaimed frontier zones; highly defensible, magically reinforced borders
Military
The Pactguard: volunteer-based, resonance-trained combined arms force; includes spellwrights, aerial patrols, and Riftsteel cavalry
Technological Level
Post-imperial arcanotech civilization; pioneers of the Thoughtforge Lattice, multi-glyphic scripting, and harmonic civic governance
Religion
Pluralist — all non-proselytizing religions permitted; central temples often honor ancestral rites, the Nine Harmonies, or memory-bound spirits
Foreign Relations
Open alliances with Riftwatch factions and rebel Arcanii cells; cautious diplomacy with Ascensus; imperial sanctions ongoing
Laws
The Oath of Mutual Resonance forms the core legal framework, supported by province-specific Concordant Addenda. Rights to arcane access, bodily autonomy, and civic transparency are enshrined.
Agriculture & Industry
High-yield spell-farming, codex crystal harvesting, Riftsteel refinement, and arcanotech engineering form economic backbone
Trade & Transport
Runeway trade paths, sky skiffs, aether barges, and bonded Rift trails allow fast interprovincial trade. Major ports at Myrith Harbor and Deepflare Bastion
Education
Universal civic education with emphasis on resonance ethics, arcane history, and logic. High spell literacy. The Concord favors decentralized education via public scriptoriums and guided mental imprints
Infrastructure
Layered Codex conduits, resonance pylons, Vault networks, flood-resilient irrigation, spell-anchored architecture, and public lodestones
