Personal history

More than a century after the Divergence, a group of survivors banded together to form a new nation. Using their knowledge of the technology and magics from before the Calamity, they were able to quickly set up a island nation of fishing and trade. This nation came under the rule of a fierce and protective king, Khorn. Their nation was one of the earliest societies to form after the prior devastation wrought by the Calamity. For the most part, the nation prospered in the Lucidian Ocean, until tragedy struck. The queen of the nation was struck with a terrible illness and none of the healers of the nation were able to save her. No amount of prayers or healing magic were able to cure the queen, who perished soon after. Khorn was overwhelmed with grief and anger, turning his rage against the gods that failed to save his wife. He struck down all the temples that once sat upon the island, including the great shrine built to Melora. Seeing the rage and hate spewed forth from the king, Melora cursed him to be ruled by his anger and rule for an eternity. Khorn was transformed into a giant mockery of his lack of vision and empathy, turning against the nation he built.    The sealed demiplane of the Witch-King was amongst the artifacts retrieved and kept within the nation. There is a possibility that it was an external influence, such as the Witch-King, that may have guided Khorn in his decision making. Regardless, the corrupted king was left as the guardian to his once prosperous nation, to ensure no fools would try and open the Witch-King's vault in a selfish search for wealth. The giant form of Khorn was awoken when the coffin of his wife was touched, and the two Heralds, Feravel and Tempest, went to stall his advance. Upon being left on the island, the two Heralds turned their full attention against the near immortal guardian. Despite the many centuries of invaders and treasure seekers the guardian had slain, he was unable to defeat the Heralds. As a testament to their abilities, Feravel and Tempest defeated the guardian and prevented whatever magics had allowed him to survive so long from taking hold. All that is left of the giant is the broken bones at the base of the island's volcano.
