Evotina

A kingdom split into four, magic ravages the land and is cultivated in every corner of the earth. The Four Facets - Air, Water, Fire and Earth - and the mysterious Fifth Facet Xenoth, are scattered across the world. The Facets were created in a fiery explosion when a piece of the heavens above sailed through the sky, burning up an entire lake in a brilliant flash and scattering magic across the earth. Over the eras it has settled down, only to be taken up once against by life itself. Within a few hundred years, the Arcani - the gifted and blessed animals of the realm, learned to harness it and use it to their own advantage - summon storms to water the thirsty plants, crush their opponents beneath the waves, burn the foliage to uncover their prey and crack open the earth to discover the treasures inside. The humans of Evotina have since discovered and tamed these animals, and through an intricate Bond they learned to co-exist with them and share their magic to weave their own spells.   Now, a new system has formed with humans and Arcani co-existing alongside each other. Cities have been established, each residing in a pocket of magic that governed the area. Taming and bonding was taught in schools to eager youngsters dreaming of their own animal friend. More and more Xenoth type Arcani were turning up every day, everyone both eager and fearful to come in contract with these elusive guardians. The world has expanded its horizons, discovering that humans weren't the only ones pursuing the true meaning of these creatures. And new research has found that the Facets provided certain gifts too - the Gift of Peace, the Gift of Vitality, the Gift of Knowledge and the Gift of Honour. The Facets bestowed the gifts in their respective regions, bringing harmony and unity - 'Evotina', in the ancient tongue - to the citizens of the realm.   And then, they said, all was fine.   I do not claim rights to any of the images used.   #NaNoWriMo2018
