Gen Z Phone Calls Are Quick

Summer 2021, Week 4, Thursday evening

Phone Call

Isaac Crysentine

Isaac had been staring at his phone for hours, listening to the voicemail left by the person he only knew as Unbreakable but also kept his friend alive. The news and continued coverage from Henry and the aftereffects blared in the background on his laptop in his dorm room, but nevertheless he decided it was time to call back. Confidently, he tapped the call button and waited for him to pick up.

The phone pickup was almost instant, the sound of the wind howling into the microphone for a second before it got pulled deeper into the hoodie Unbreakable wore as he looked down at the city. "Hey Fire boy you and the golden Martyr alright?" There was some worry in his voice, if you could detect it through the joking tone. He was trying a new way to cope with all of.....this

"Hey, I guess it's alright." Isaac went along with the joke slightly, feeling slightly awkward for some reason. "Victory is better now, and I got discharged the other day too. I heard Luna is doing better. Listen, I don't know what's going to happen with AERI. We haven't had a team meeting yet and the city and even country seems pretty split on what to do with us. I'll keep you updated, but just be a bit more careful from now on. People might recognize you. I also, did, kind of challenge most of the not-friendly fellas in the world I just realized, so watch out for that too." Isaac breathed, feeling some relief at relaying the information. "I'll pass your info to Sloane, but until then I'll be the one keeping you updated."  

Unbreakable

"That's good, I was worried for y'all. Did not wanna be the reason a young......is she a robot? I'm sorry I'm just needing that explained to me because she was heavy. Y'know what another time." Unbreakable kicked some of the gravel that sat on the roof his was talking on. Issac had called mid "patrol" something he'd been doing since sunday night after everything happened. "Yeah they might. Never been an issue before but don't worry EHEA and anyone else can try and catch me. Thanks for keeping me posted. It was funny, monday I was meant to actually train with victory. Now I tried to do his job for a bit, yell tell that Sloane lady she my info and that next time we talk for her to please not go inside my head. I didn't like it."

"Haha, yeah, I'll be sure to tell her. Talk to you until then! Hope you liked the voicemail." Isaac hung up the phone, relieved that the conversation was over. He wasn't good with new people conversations, but it was nice to talk to a new team member and probably a new friend.

“Alright see ya whenever, rest up. I got a feeling things are gonna heat up.”
