An Unlikely Duo

Summer 2021, Week 4, Thursday evening

Cornhill, Old Towne

Father Cal (Armored)

Cal rather enjoyed the long nights spent alone, no matter what anyone said. He never found the times he sat upon rooftops his back to the cold leather of his armor boring .No matter how long he sat. Waiting was just another time for him to contemplate his love for the lord after all.   Thousands of tiny prayers for those who needed help, Millions of words for those lost in the city around him, and of course ample time to clean, check and ready his rifle for those who couldn't be saved. Running a blue gloved finger across the cartridge in his hand, he slowly pressed down on the bullet at the top before sliding another rose tipped round into the magazine. After his last mark got away with nothing more than a flesh wound, Cal wasn’t willing to make a mistake a second time. He kept his movements to a quiet minimum knowing even without armored plates covering his arms, the plates on his legs and chest could be more then loud enough. A small laptop sat on his right running a simple software some cardinal had given him. Tracking the traffic cameras below His web was set, his fangs were ready, patient gave good to the spider.

Chess

Chess would keep in the darkness of the alley way as he stared down at the near lifeless body he had beaten to a pulp.   "I'm getting paid half a mil to make you suffer buddy, don't die on me now" Chess would chuckle. With that he would pick up the man by his collar before slamming him against the wall, a sound of pain and distress escaping his lips

Storyteller

"Come on man please don't kill me, I have a wife and Two—"

Chess

"Oh cut the fucking bullshit man. I've been watching you for weeks, just two nights ago I saw you at the club. Left with some blonde chick. Now either you're an Uber of some sort or you truly don't care for your so called family. Ah. Or maybe...youre just using the same bullshit excuse everyone uses right before I slit their throat"

Father Cal (Armored)

There was a quiet ping to Cals left. His software had found something, setting down the box of ammo on his right he rolled over, no longer carrying for silence and peaked over the edge of the building. Another bug caught in his web. Below him was a ...evo? not one he could tell, yet his database told him so. Not to mention the creature was currently beating the hell out of a inncent man. Giving a furious growl he left the wrath of god fill his very soul. His fingers wrapped around the soft leather hilt of his blade, his other hand jammed a small metal spike into the concrete wall of the building. Quickly clicking small nylon rope into the spike he tossed himself over the wall, sliding down the bricks as quiet as a 180 pound man in solid metal armor could. Slowing himself with the rope.   The darkness of the alley meant nothing to Cal, his visor swapping to a lowlight filter as he touched the ground.

Chess

"Seriously. You really think your sorry excuse of your so called family is going to save you? You're dead either way. You better be lucky I even slip one hundred dollars on your funeral expenses." Chess would give a small chuckle as he looked into the man's eyes from beneath his mask. "Poor you" Chess would taunt

Father Cal (Armored)

"Yes,Poor you" Cal spoke with a deep rumble of a voice. Standing tall the six foot tall man in armor was a monster in the shadows. The light from the street came from behind him, Washing over his back and leaving him outlined in golden light. He was slow and deliberate in drawing the short blade from his hip. He didn't enjoy evoking fear in those he hunted, normally. Yet. This time this time he was going to enjoy every second of it. Evo's were already a waste of skin, and this one was even worse. His sin dripped off him, his evil echoed in his soul.. All things Cals Light would cleanse. Cal wouldn't say another word as the alley Erupted in light, Lightening bouncing off the short silvery blade.

Chess

Chess would raise an eyebrow towards the incoming individual "Ah! Welcome to the party man I was just showing this nice fellow here why he needs to catch up on payments. Say hello Jacob" The man would cower in fear as he gave Cal a look seemingly asking for help. "Anyway, who are you supposed to be?" Chess would scoff "I'm kind of in the middle of something right now"

Father Cal (Armored)

Twenty or so feet was much for a trained soilder, even in full armor. Taking one step, then another, then a third and he was up to full speed. Sprinting forward with the wrath of a angery god. Every step was thunder, metal boots crunching agsint the hard ground. His blade which he held to his side dug into the bricks of the building to his left, leaving melted stone in his wake as he moved. Reaching chess, Cal twisted his upper body, slashing his lightening charged blade at mid chest level towards his enemy. "ADMORTEM"

Chess

Chess would eye the man as he lunged forward with his sword. Man he is coming in quick Chess would think to himself. He'd sigh as he kept his hands by his sides. As the blade of the sword got mere centimeters from his chest, a small white light would flash and Chess would be....gone?   Then In near milliseconds after he disappeared he would reappear behind the man, their backs towards each other. Chess would sigh as he looked over his shoulder towards the man.   "You should've just let me kill him" Chess would say softly

Father Cal

What th.... A snarl left Cals lips, Muffled by the metal helm of his head. He could teleport. That was a new one. Letting the weight of his blade carry his strike helifted, and jammed his elbow back towards the man. Even as Baraqiel slashed into the bricks of the wall he saught to jam his armored elbow of his right arm back towards the odd evo.

Chess

"Oops" Before the elbow could strike him, this time Chess would teleport back to his original spot. Once there, mind you in a blink of an eye, Chess would smirk as he attempted a right hook towards the man, meant strong enough to knock him back a few feet

Father Cal (Armored)

Of course Call didn't bother to move. He had already seen the mans base power set. He wasn't a strength evo, he believed. And solid steel protected from a lot more then just bullet. Having been leaning back to the right he rolled his left shoulder forward intent on letting his left side take the hit. His sword still imbeded into the wall sparked and crackled in the rough brick. Electricity sparking up his arm from were he held the hilt of his sword, sparking voilently across the titatuim of his battle armor. Right to were Chess was about to punch.

Chess

As the punch connected, Chess would begin to yell as shocks of electricity would begin to flow through his body. These yells of agony would echo through the land before Chess would seemingly pass out from the high voltage.   Was it over before it could even begin?

Father Cal (Armored)

God often made his battles easier, Guiding his hand, Allowing his blade to strike true...but rarely he made his enemy's die so.. easily. Shaking his covered head he tugged on his sword pulling it from the now ruined bricks. Snapping the liquid clay off the end of his blade he looked down to the man. Pathetic truly, for a force of evil he was nothing more then some week wanna be...truly a waste of his time..Yet, He would treat all enemy's of god the same. Stepping over the man he brought both his hands to the hilt of his sword and went to drive the thick black blade straight down into the beasts neck.

Chess

Chess would smirk as his eyes darted open before again, teleporting to where he stood last. "GOTCHA" Chess would laugh as he held his gut in joy. "I mean don't get me wrong, you got hella smarts implementing electricity with your steel armor. Pretty smart I may say. Although..."   Chess would hold his hand out as sparks of electricity began to crackle at his finger tips. "You need to learn how to access your target a but better....rookie"

Father Cal (Armored)

While the average draw time was around 2 seconds Cal was a master,a trained and veteran solider, and one who regular hunted "magical" being with powers from hell itself. Time slowed for Cal as he heard the mans voice. First his hands let go of his blade, second he spun aiming to strike high, a hard left hook, all while his right had slid down and drew the fn 5,7 on his right thigh. His movements were smooth professional and all done in under a 1 second and a quarter of time.

Chess

Chess wouldnt get the chance to dodge the punch as he grunted in frustration as it connected, knocking him back a few feet.   "What a lucky fucking hit." He would growl "But now you know buddy, I have the powers of electricity, you are nothing to me. Might as well speak up, I'm going to silence you soon anyway"

Father Cal (Armored)

Of course the punch was a feint, while he hit with full strength that was never his goal. 20 rounds, point blank. cal knew his odds, And very much liked it. The smirk wouldn't be seen as his lifted the pistol in response with his draw back of the punch. Opening fire as he did. Beginning to fire as the weapon lifted past his waist. "A good man always gives a finally request to a dead man. Die with honor" He spoke quietly as he fired, ready to turn if the man teleported once more.

Chess

Chess would shake his head he teleported once more, now starting to feel the sickening effects its having on his body. Only this time he would teleport farther away, crouched behind a metal dumpster as the man kept firing.   "Of course, a gun fight" Chess would scold as he brought out his dual raging bull revolvers.

Father Cal (Armored)

Why can't people just die like they are supposed to. Why must he hunt down every single demon that walked this earth as they ran from his cleansing fire. Having fired five of his 20 rounds Cal slowly looked left, then to right scanning for hostile. Not seeing a soul he moved over to the poor man who was getting beat up and reached down to help him to his feet.   "Come, you must leave before the demon returns."

Chess

As Cal helped the man up, a shot would ring out, followed by the man's head cocking backwards violently. Two more shots would ring out as two new bullet holes would line his chest.   Chess had come out of hiding, and he seemed agitated. "Keep your fucking hands off my paycheck" He woukd threaten

Father Cal (Armored)

Of course Cal expected this, through he had hoped he would be the target. Seeing the man go limp at his feet. Cal gave a slow sigh. "Those who die in the arms of the lord may rest eternal.. Sleep well child, may the grace of our god watch over you"   Cal's voice was soft, yet ridge his anger slowly bubbling to the surface. He long surprised it. A fighter losing themselves to anger was a dead man. Rising up he cared little if the man shot him. Judging by the noise, he was positive his bullets wouldn't pierce even the metal of his armor, never mind the ceramic plate. He dropped the magazine loaded into his pistol and slowly turned loading another 20 rounds into the bottom of his 57, His eyes seeming to glow as teh slight of his visor swwapped to a low red color.

Chess

Chess would smirk as he looked at the man. "All my life I hated evos. But do you know what I hate more than Evos? People who can't mind their fucking business" Chess seemed out of breath. Hurt in some way. "How about we put the guns down and talk about this eh?"

Father Cal (Armored)

"Evo's.. what does a man of the devil know about hateing creatures of the devil."   Cal stalked closer. His pistol down as the man spoke, His voice was intriguing he felt like the man was telling the truth. As he stepped passed his blade he slowly reached down and grabbed its hilt never taking his eyes off the mad man. He wouldn't miss this time.

Chess

"An Evo killed my father, in war. I've hated them ever since. And to think I have become what I've hated all these years sicken me. I want all evos dead, and when I have completed that mission...some day. My own life will be fulfilled and taken."   Chess would be sincere about this said speech although never taking his eyes off opponent.   "That man I just killed in front of you was a drug dealer for an evo I'm not so found with. That person also happened to owe me money so I got a hit out of it as well."

Father Cal (Armored)

Tilting his head a bit Cal seemed to sincerely pause. He had heard many stories over the years of people who wanted to...Convince him that they wanted to be on his side, stories of men and women about to die. Yet he say no mistruth in the mans eyes. He could see the burning hatred in his soul, and feel the venom that dripped off of every word. Slowly he sheathed his pistol and thought to himself. Taking almost a full minute of standing there. Blade in hand to think to himself. A ally even one loosely trusted was useful, he couldn't patrol during the day, and had to struggle to keep who he was hidden... "Perhaps. We have the same ideals then, or at least the same goals."
TRIGGER WARNING: TALK OF SUICIDE/SELF HARM

Chess

Chess would click a small button on his neck, his helmet retracting towards the spine. A war torn looking young man, scars lining his face, faded black straight hair near pass his eyes.   "I hate being an Evo with everything. I've been to the ICU fuve times as a kid due to me overdosing. I have lines, down my arm just from me taking an electrical bolt to it. It burned...but I did it cause I hated who I was"   Chess seemed to be real sincere as he spoke this, yet through all this pain he kept his composure. Like a butterfly dedicated to find his home through a windy storm.   "But i want to get back at this corrupted city, government, world. And I will burn it to the ground if I have to. The fucking Evos. The Fucking Feds. And the fucking God that made me like this. I want Evos gone, and I won't stop to get what I desire."

Father Cal (Armored)

The man...no the kid infront of him..It..it was something he heard many times back in the Vatican from the hunters like him...He let out a heavy sigh and lifted his blade ,only to slowly sheath it on his hip staring forward unmoving, a wall of steel.   "I understand your hate, at least in part. .I am not hunting evil in this city, only evos. Seeking to remove them from the face of this world....and while I think you are a …monstrosity I think you agree with me.. perhaps we can work out a partnership"

Chess

Chess would disappear to reappear a handshake away from the man. "In all my time as I am, no one but my mother really understood how I felt. No therapist, pill nor friend really knew how I felt. You are different"   Chess would reach his hand out, an offer of a handshake to the guy. "Let's work"

Father Cal (Armored)

Reaching out Cal set his unarmored hand in chess's shaking it with a smile still hidden by his helm. His grip was that of a soldiers power, crushing and without falter.   "I think this will be a good partnership I think. Call me... Covenant. Forgive me if I don't trust you with my real name just yet. Or ever. I'm not a evo, merely a man doing the good lords work"

Chess

"The Good lord eh? Well I guess its in my right mind to apologize for cursing your beloved God, or whatever. To be honest I couldn't ever grasp the concept of some God letting this world burn to shit just because he left some of his specimens in different acids. Nah. But if you can somehow change my mind about shit...you may need a brain washer."   Chess really meant what he said. He felt a bit on edge but more comfortable than he has been.   "So where to? I'm kind of still on the run y'know"

Father Cal (Armored)

Giving a small laugh, but ignoring the mans clear ignorance about god. he pointed up. Towards the roof were his real set up was. "up, We can plan our next move from up there" Looking towards the body on the ground he shook his head. In war there were causality's, acceptable ones to achieve his end goals. Walking over to were he had left the nearly invisible black nylon rope. He braced himself with it and slowly climbed up the wall. Letting it hang if his teleporting alley needed it.. His small camp rested against the wall, his rifle backpack with all his supplies and his laptop still tracking away at the traffic cams.

Chess

Instead of Teleporting, due to his stomach pains, Chess would ease the pain by taking the rope instead. As he got to the room he would give a nod of approval.   "Just like somethink my dad would set up" He'd chuckle. We'd camp in the woods. Marshmallows were our health pack when we were injured by imaginary soldiers and spies. Heh, Brings back old memories"   Chess would sigh as he leaned his back against the wall as he sat on the floor. "Maybe....I won't be dead in a matter of days...all up to you really heh heh, let's see how this works out...."
