Frostrill Boar & Peace

"The World of Evermyst abounds with an abundance of wild game, much of which can contribute to a fantastic feast. Legend has it that a feast befitting the gods must include a Frostrill Boar."

Long before the formation of the kingdoms on Arimar, there had been primitive human tribes living in nature, mostly clan and tribalistic. Hunting was the staple. The Frostrill Mountain Range was a most inhospitable place, but game was abundant if only the hunting parties could survive the harsh cold and dangerous territory. This was more the territory of the Nordlanders and Jotenkin, or "Giant Kin". For humans to hunt in their land was looked at as an act of war to the Jotenkin tribes. Nonetheless, many Human Hunting parties traversed into Jotenkin lands, and most never returned or returned having to surrender their successful hunts to the Jotenkin for their lives Few were ever successful at scoring big game.

Over time, Human tribes started turning more towards farming, while Jotenkin would make forays into the Human Tribal lands with war parties and demand tribute. These war parties were even said to be led by Nordlandic Gods themselves. Human tribes would often surrender large portions of the grain and crops to appease these Jotenkin raiders, only to get their villages or crops burned. This all changed because of the skills of one young Girl.

Stories passed down tell of a Jotenkin war party descending upon a village led by two of the Nordlanders' own Gods, Freyr and Gonnard. Many of the Human males of the village had been slain in its defense, with the broken survivors then huddled before the Jotenkin Warriors and the Gods Freyr and Gonnard. Freyr demanded a tribute greater than the broken people of the village could spare. In a show of utter arrogance and confidence, Freyr called out to the defeated humans, "Is there anyone that can best me or my best hunter, Gonnard, at finding and falling the largest game? If so, then I will spare your village and its people." Most of the surviving men in the village were elderly and too scared to speak up, but from the scared villagers came a young girl by the name of Draella who said, "If no man will accept your challenge, I will."

After much scoffing and laughter by the Freyr, Gonnard, and the Jotenkin raiders. Freyr, Gonnard and the Little human girl Draella set off into the Frostrill Mountains it is said that for five days, they hunted through a fierce snowstorm, when they finally came across tracks of Frostrill Boar. For nearly half a day in howling winds, they managed to track the beast despite horrific weather.

Draella first spotted and pointed out the beast to Freyr and Gonnard, signaling that she would try to move in under the cover of the howling winds and snow. Freyr, in his impetuous manner, fired two shots of his bow, but the winds carried them away, clearly missing but not stirring the beast. Gonnard crept stealthily behind Draella and drew back his bow and let his arrow fly. Winds carried the shot high, with the arrow skipping off the great beasts' back as he quickly knocked his second arrow. The Frostrill Boars' squeals could be heard through the wind as Draella's arrow hit true, striking the beast in the heart as it fell dead.

Freyr and Gonnard, in their frustration at being bested, told young Draella it was her task and her task alone to bring the beast back to the village and prove to the Jotenkin of her feat. From Deep in the Frostrills, Draella carried that Frostrill boar for nearly three days of bitter cold and without rest and no assistance from Freyr or Gonnard. The two gods had hoped she would drop the beast and collapse from exhaustion or freezing to death in the hope of telling the Jotenkin a different tale, but Draella made it to the village.

In their Humility, Freyr and Gonnard honored their words, but before they left the village, Draella spoke to the surviving village elders, asking to throw a feast for the Jotenkin. Respectful in their Humility, Freyr and Gonnard Feasted with the villagers, and it was a most impressive feast. The Jotenkin and the Villagers feasted and drank and reveled in stories with Freyr and Gonnard recounting Draellas' perfect shot felling the great beast. The Frostrill Boar roasted that day was the most tender and succulent despite its tougher and outward appearance.

Freyr was so impressed with the Feast and bestowed Draella powers as a goddess that day. Legend has it that Frostrill Boar is only the most succulent and tender if felled by a single arrow through the heart, and in this way fit for the gods. After that day, Tensions and Conflict between the Human and Jotenkin Tribes have greatly subsided, and the peace has lasted for hundreds of years.

To this Day, Hunters Hope to Fell a Frostrill Boar in the same way as Draella, and the Frostrill boar is the crowning portion of some of the greatest feasts of the Jotenkin and Human tribes.
