C2 Session 34
General Summary
Everyone is sitting on the ship, moments after the battle
Koin is on his knees in the middle of the boat, with the airshard next to him
They all stand on the galley, with warships and the other ships of the fleet surrounding them in a defensive manner
Even though they’ve been gone a matter of minutes, the sky seems so much more gray now, the cool summer breeze gone, and only gloom remains
Xodon picks up the shard and tries to get Koin’s attention or wake him up, but there is no response
He instructs the zxaralites to take him downstairs until he wakes up
As they bring him down the stairs, Dara aids Rafwar up the stairs, and stops for a moment at the top to watch Koin being dragged downstairs
Rafwar grabs his crutches, and asks Xodon why Koin is not going to the captain’s chambers
Xodon tells him Koin is not fit for being a captain, and that sun is dead and Koin wanted to be done with everything
Rafwar questions why he would just give up on his friend
He doesn’t expect anyone else to understand because they weren’t there
He wonders who Xodon has become, because the Xodon he knew wouldn’t betray his friends
Xodon says he is protecting his friends not betraying them
Rafwar asks if he protected Henry, if that’s why what’s left of Henry is a blade and a heart
Xodon intends to keep his promise to Koin about dragol, and doesn’t want to kill a shell of a man
Rafwar tells him they have seen war together and Xodon is the only one who sees Koin as a shell
He tells him that Koin has carried the weight on his shoulders since the beginning
Says that he watched Koin make the charge and make his oath
He expects Xodon to look at where he is going, what he leaves behind, and who he is
Says that he’s not fighting to win a war or killing to kill a nation
He points to the shard, which he sacrificed his life for, and says it’s not about Dragol or Daemon, it’s about Xodon’s right to live and have freedom
His vows, words, and oaths mean nothing. His staged mutinies and killing, for nothing
Xodon says that wiping out the corrupt, killing the leaders, would be like removing a cancer
Rafwar tells him that he’s sounding and acting like Daemon
Xodon tells him not to compare him to Daemon
Rafwar tells him not to act like him then, and he slowly hobbles downstairs
The sun finishes setting and clouds set in, backlit by the moon
The surrounding ships light fires in tribute to Sun and Koin
Meals are being made, and Xodon walks down to see Koin, who is still unconscious
Zoroc brings a plate of food to Xodon, who refuses to eat, but Zoroc leaves the food there for him just incase
Zoroc looks at Koin’s face and wonders what he’s seen or experienced, before shutting the door and going to get some rest
In the morning, clouds cover the sky in gray
They are entering a much colder area of the primordial pass, which will only take a few days to sail straight through
The grung are taking advantage of the rain and cloud cover, fixing holes, replacing doors, etc.
Dara knocks on Xodon’s door, and he opens it
She comments on his lack of sleep, says he should rest, and she needs to run tests on him
Xodon walks out of his room and begins walking towards the captain’s quarters, and as he walks, the grung around him stop working and just stare for a second
He ignores them, and begins opening the door
There is a pause, the grung waiting, and everyone else too, knowing what it means for him to step in to that room
After 30 seconds or so, he opens the door and steps in to the room
He looks around, and begins searching through the documents they have stockpiled
He reminisces on the information they once thought was useful, and how insignificant it is now compared to the bigger picture
Xodon takes out the blade of memories, looking at it, pondering
A voice from the corner of the room says “you know it’s not your fault right?”
Xodon looks up to see Henry, and wonders how he’s there
He says he is always there, and that even though Rafwar was hard on him, it’s nobody's fault
He says they are fighting because they want to, they all wanted adventure and got carried away
He looks at the journals, wonders why they were kept, since all that matters are the memories
Henry says that heroes are not heroes because they suffer, but because they do what nobody has the strength to do
He tells Xodon he is a protector, and that even after his death, Xodon is still holding on to him
He has always been a protector, a frontline. He tells him to try not to get caught up in it
Xodon asks what Henry thinks of Dragol
He says that he thinks it’s a beautiful place with beautiful people, but it’s far from perfect. There’s corruption and crime, but it is what it is
Before he left Dragol, he would’ve had a different answer. But he knows now that life is beautiful and everything happens for a reason
Good cannot exist without evil, and that is an objective truth
He stands up and walks around the desk, putting his hand on Xodon’s shoulders
“Try and remember that” he says, before walking past Xodon and disappearing
Zoroc and Xodon have a deep emotional conversation, the Dara knock on the door
She says he is still asleep, and he is physically fine, but whatever happened is beyond the bounds of medicine and her science
Her diagnosis is comatose, and she doesn’t know if he’ll wake up
It’s is solely up to Koin now
She moved him to more comfortable quarters
Xodon leaves to inform Rafwar
Rafwar doesn’t want to talk to him, but Xodon talks anyways
He still wants to reform Dragol, but doesn’t want to become the evil that haunts the continent now
Rafwar asks Xodon why he answered his flier so long ago
He says that much was new to him and had only experienced life for a couple years prior to meeting Rafwar
Knowledge was the most valuable thing to him at the time
Rafwar says it is still the most important, and now he knows where to start
He says “you’re the last one left Xodon” before going back to reading his book
Xodon asks how to fix what he’s done, but Rafwar says there isn’t a way
He wants to fight the anger he feels, but doesn’t know how
Rafwar says everyone has their limits, but now is not the time to be lost, and that he can’t let Daemon get to him too
Xodon says he can’t take down Daemon, rafwar says he can’t alone
Xodon tells Rafwar he would be better off fighting for Henry. And tries to force the blade of memories into his hand
He says Xodon is the only one with the right to that, and tells him to leave
Vale knocks on the door and suggests a meeting to form a plan
They all gather, and begin discussing what’s next
After conversing for awhile, they hear a knock on the door
Rafwar walks in and they talk
They talk about plans, and then a knock on the door
Adrezill opens it and finds Koin, his eyes now a toxic green rather than his usual sky blue
He says the war will be the death of them, and he’s had many revelations
Rafwar then brings up the chaos that Thera is most likely in, and everyone realizes that they should go back to Aezraghn and fix what they left
Rafwar casts a spell, and suddenly they all look like dragolians
Rafwar suggests going to Dragol, simply to shop
Everyone seems to agree, and Rafwar asks Adrezill to teleport them to the market district
He does so, and they appear in Onye Aloura, a large castle in the distance, and the bustling market district in front of them
There is a vast vertical canyon in the ground, lit up all the way down it with various flowers and houses scattered about
They look around and the first thing Rafwar wants is a bagel
Adrezill wants to find the Ravens academy, Rafwar and Zoroc are off to get a bagel, and Vale and Xodon wait with Adrezill until he goes somewhere
Rafwar and Zoroc obtain bagels, and buy all of them
Adrezill reaches a shop for magical items, where he inquires about rare items
The keeper brings him to the back, and Adrezill asks for the rarest thing he has
The keeper informs him that the items in this room go for tens of thousands of gold, and there is a 5000 gold deposit for him to let Adrezill in
He shows him an item, which he is particularly proud of, as a student sacrificed their life for it, a ring of spell turning
He showcases multiple more items before asking if Adrezill wants to see his private collection
He opens a portal and adrezill follows, to see him open the floor up to reveal a fiery hellscape
He drops his visage to reveal he is in fact a devil, and offers Adrezill a ring that he coughs up after summoning a bat from the hellscape, in exchange for his soul
He tells Adrezill he will show him what the ring does, and presses it against his forehead
He sees a town and a man holding a sword named hope, a sword named faith, bloodshed and war, a man in a suit of armor with the sword named avenger next to him
The same bat but much younger next to him, a tiefling with daggers, an elven woman with sickles, they are all staring down angels
War breaks out, and the soldier brings out the arrow that destroys all and fires it
It is thrown and caught and thrown back, and massive explosions occur
The devil tells him that it will either be his soul, or Daemon’s
He is back on the street with the ring, and convenes with the rest of the group
Xodon is at Carl strange’s shop looking for a pet, and buys a dire wolf
They all reconvene and go looking outside the city for the place of worship for the dragon god of death
They hail a cab and travel to the outskirts of Amulet
As they travel in the cart, Adrezill explains the ring to them and it’s conditions
Koin asks for the ring for safekeeping and Adrezill hands it to him, but he slips and it begins falling to the ground
Koin instinctually reaches for it, and catches the ring perfectly
