C2 Session 30

General Summary

They all stand among the graves of the silver masks
  • Adrezill begins channelling a spell, and teleports them all back onto the ship at sea
  • Waydrane and Koin’s father are long gone, and they begin planning how to beat Daemon in the race to find the remaining keyshards
  • Adrezill and Zoroc recall their studies in the fey, and Adrezill begins channeling, with Zoroc helping
  • He glows and gains information
  • There are four planes, all anchored to the material plane
  • Above and below are the fey and shadowfell
  • In another place, the ethereal plane
  • The elemental planes of fire, water, earth and air surround the material plane
  • All of the planes are connected in the same way countries or cities are, and everything is surrounded in a bubble
  • Outside the bubble is the astral plane, outside of space
  • Further out lies the realms of the gods and deities, and further are the very outer planes nobody visits
  • There are many different dimensions, starting at the first with the material plane, and going up as you get further away
  • The plane of air is clouds and windy, the plane of water is very watery, the plane of earth filled with rock and rubble, and the most dangerous plane of fire, with a bronze city and an environment where every breath is full of ash and dust
  • The beings of each plane do not share the same motivations as those on the material plane, and there is no circle of life, as the planes thrive off of the environments they were built upon
  • Most intelligent life within the planes are those who are powerful and exalted, as they have grown and risen inside the second dimension
  • They tell everyone of the information, and adrezill channels a spell to contact the hollowed god of air
  • Adrezill hears four words in his head: waiting, watching, healing, growing
  • They all take the night to rest, and wake up refreshed faced with the decision on what to do next
  • Adrezill casts see invisibility, and finds steve on the front of the ship practicing his newly learned invisibility spell
  • He continues searching the rest of the ship, but doesn’t find any scrying orbs
  • They continue discussing whether or not they should go to the plane of air, but Koin brings the plan to a halt, and Vale agrees that Daemon is too powerful to risk themselves going to the plane of air only to have the keyshard stolen again
  • Later that night, Koin gathers a few cases of mead and rallies the crew to have some drinks, which he has tainted with truth serum to rat out the mole within the fleet
  • He looks upon the crew but doesn’t notice anything out of the ordinary
  • Zoroc hovers through the crowd, but doesn’t notice anything either
  • Koin returns to the captain’s quarters and looks at the letter from the black suns, examining it with his wand and discovering that it was magical and forged by Daemon, with a scrying sigil on the bottom
  • He has been listening in on them for months, but now he cannot do so anymore
  • They talk for a long while, and Adrezill asks the air god another question, who confirms that Xodon has seen the air keyshard in the plane of air
  • They all definitely believe this, and so Xodon takes the amulet of the planes, and brings them all to the plane of air
  • They land on limestone, and see a large castle, with wolf spirits guarding it, identical to the one Xodon has inside him
  • This is not the place Xodon saw a while back
  • There is a man that appears in front of all of them, but only looks at Xodon
  • Xodon asks him if he knows where the air keyshard is, and the man says that it seems fate has returned Xodon to him
  • He asks who the man is, and he says that he is Xodon’s father
  • He tells Xodon that the plane of air is where he used to live, but that long ago, Xodon wished to be sent to the material plane
  • Xodon does not know why he would wish for that, but asks again where the keyshard is
  • His father asks Xodon if he is ready, and what makes him think it would be safer with them than with him
  • Xodon warns him of the power of Paragon and Daemon and Olga, but his father insists that he cannot give the keyshard to Xodon because his magi is too weak, and that is how the last shard was lost to the enemy
  • He says that he has seen all that has happened, and Xodon asks why he never intervened, and his father asks if that’s really what he would’ve wanted
  • Koin, Adrezill, and Zoroc stand behind Xodon stunned, at a loss for words
  • Xodon says that he might not want his memories of a past life back, and if he really did have the wish to go to the material plane, he regrets it
  • His father notes that he has lost all of his magi, and that all of his friends have none besides Koin
  • Xodon asks how he can regain his magi, but his father says it was never really lost
  • He walks up to Xodon and says he has forgotten, and asks the rest of the group if they know what magi is, but nobody does
  • His father says that magi is the opposite of arcana, it is primordial, stronger, and draws from the elements
  • He points to Koin, and tells him to attack him, which Koin does
  • He charges forward, examines the man, and strikes with all of his force
  • The sword and punches strike, clearly wounding his airy body
  • He catches one of his punches, and says that his punches are using magi
  • He heals his wounds and says that it is also magi
  • He then conjures an arcane sigil, and punches through it, describing arcana as weak
  • He then grows in size and says that magi cannot be countered or stopped
  • He says that they must use magi to defeat their opponents instead of arcana, which they are heavily outclassed in
  • Magi is the power of life, and it will win the fight
  • He says that he cannot give them the shard willingly, as it would be irresponsible of him
  • But if they can take the keyshard, it’s theirs
  • Xodon asks about the importance of his family and his mother
  • His father says that Xodon was created by the land, and he is only father in name, as he is to Xodon’s siblings, nodding towards the wolf spirits
  • They all hear that they need to get stronger in their magi
  • Koin asks for parting words, and he talks in primordial to one of the wolf spirits to fetch the stone
  • A spirit comes back with a small watery blue rock that he says they can use to train their magi
  • Xodon’s father then makes some hand symbols, then they are all teleported back onto the ship
  • They examine the stone, and Adrezill casts identify on it, but it just refuses to be read
  • Xodon shifts while holding it, but nothing happens
  • They try a variety of ways to activate the stone, but they all fail
  • Xodon eventually strings it up around himself to carry it
  • Zoroc throws an eldritch blast at it, but it dissipates
  • Zoroc then uses his life force to strike it, and the floor below it breaks and the rock falls
  • Although it did not use any of his life force, the strike still had a large impact
  • Through this, they discover that hemocraft is life essence, which is magi
  • Magi has many powerful effects, and the rock will train them in those many different methods
  • Magi is a trained method of finding the solution yourself, thus being stronger, compared to arcana which is a solution handed to you which is much weaker
  • There are no shortcuts in magi, and that is why it is so powerful
