Cormyr Republic

The Formation

Formed by five dragonborne brothers who led the rebellion against the Cormanthyr people to free their race. These five brothers formed the Republic on the coast of the "lake of dragons". The five brothers were celebrated as heroes among their people and five staues were built in the capital to commemorate them. Conflict among the brothers grew due to the eldest wishing for sole power. The younger four fearing a repeat of their enslavement but under one of their own outcasted the eldest and his followers to the east. The eldest brother formed the Shogunate and these countries have been in conflict ever since. The statue of the eldest brother was swiftly destroyed and only partial remains of the statue lie where it once stood.   These Statues show the younger four brothers whose names were lost to history. What we do know about the younger four were that they were all astute learners and teachers. They nurtured the minds of their people in the first days while the eldest brother slaughtered a way for their future. We know from texts that the eldest was named Vermithor, the Bronze-Defiler, and subsequently a bronze dragonborne. The other four consisted of the colors, listed by each brothers age (oldest to lowest), white, blue, gold, and red.

The Republic

In the Republic, a council of four dragonborne citizens are elected by congress to oversee the republic for a 6 year time-span. The council can only propose ideas for change or action to the congress. Once these ideas are sent to congress, the 125 congress members will vote to sustain the proposal or deny the proposal. The congressmen are voted in by only first class citizens living in the district that congressmen is running in. To be elected to become a council member, a congressmen must be voted in by a seperate board called the "Knowledge Keepers". The "Knowledge Keepers" are a board of members consisting of the wisest and oldest dragonborne people in the society who hold no political biases. The "Knowledge Keepers" take into account the years of service, leadership, and energy of certain congressmen when discussing who to elect into the council. Once elected onto the council, the councilors will serve their 6 years and must retire from any political service thereafter. The forced retirement of the councilors is implemented to prevent the person from being able to build power and overthrow the republic. Due to this system, change is often slow to occur in the republic and many memebers of it's society believes the nation to be stuck in the past.   The republic sees the "Draconic-Sembian Shogunate" as a grave threat to prosperity and peace of their nation. Often in history these two nations have gone to war with neither side gaining significant territory from each other for very long. Due to the Vermithorian bloodline having the ability of dragon-riding, the republic has tried to assassinate or overthrow them with planted rebellions or assassians. The Shogunate isn't the only enemy the Republic faces, however. Cormanthyr raids occur frequently among the borders of the countries with the Cormanthyr army displaying the heads of Cormyr soldiers along the border. Cormanthyr believes that the Shogunate is too powerful to destroy due to its control of dragons and subsequently focuses its war efforts on Cormyr.   The fate of the younger four brothers is lost to time. Some say that they died in a battle against the "Bronze-Defiler", or after their councilorship they moved on to found citadels of knowledge. No matter the reason, however, many in the republic wonder why the ability of dragon-riding was lost among the other four brothers with rumours circulating that the eldest made a pact with Bahamut, the Draconic God, for this power. But at what cost?

Laws

Knowledge is Wasted on The Simple Minded   A republic made up of mostly dragonborne people but other races are allowed to live there as well. Humans, although, are barred from entry into the country. In the Republic only dragonborne people are considered first class citizens.   The Bones Stack Too High   In the republic, no politician can outright propose an agressive war. Due to the nature of the republic, the republic takes on a pacifism role. This does not mean that wars cannot be started out of "They alreadly plan to strike, why not strike first?" ideas, however.   Wisdom Before Agression   Every first class citizen in the republic is required to attend schooling until they reach maturity. The republic is formed by enlightend thinkers, not savages.   Words Cut Deeper Than Blades   Similar to the Imperium, the republic doesn't allow for duels to settle disputes. In the republic, if two citizens are having disputes they must file for a formal depate where then a group of onlookers shall determine the winner of the debate.   Common Sense   Any crime such as sexual assaults, murder, theft, battery, fraud, and so on are deemed illegal.
The flag of the republic depicts a dragonborne named, Celiantarium. Celiantaruim was a great hero in the Republic due to his diplomatic prowess and wisdom. During the "Burning of Urmlaspyr", which occured during the 4th Draconion war, Celiantarium was able to negotiate a peace deal with the Shogun at that time with mere words. Celiantarium went on to found much of the principals and traditons Cormyrions follow to this day.
