The common histories of the Kingdom of Batrya.
The Marean church was formed by the pirates who once sailed the untameable battlefield of the two great spirits. As refugees flooded into the land, they formed a new religion-- The Marean Church. This church led the people and acted as a supreme government. They set up their bases in Trimont over the Northern Delta. This way they had access to the waves of the Titan, whom they worshiped, and some distance from the Usurper’s Domain. The farmland was rich and fertile due to the years of underwater protection. Thus they created a glorious economy based on the booming agriculture and the overwhelming donations of the Marean Disciples. Sailing all but vanished due to the fear of the Usurper. This is where the Pirate Lords of the Sea of Harmony were born. They braved the waves despite the warnings from the church and formed colonies of their own on the islands of the sea. The church led a prosperous time but the teachings became more strict. People were required to make pilgrimages out to the cold depths of the North to “appease” the Titan god. Most did not return. Most were indoctrinated on these beliefs and saw no alternatives, but some, like in all situations, have resisted the teachings through the years. These people were of course persecuted but that only made their cause stronger. And thus began The Batryan Revolution.

The first High Priest of the Marean Theocracy, Bavel Ditsk was a kind man. He led the nation to great prosperity, but his exploits are often overshadowed by the evils of his successor.
Rhirid Dekha was a bitter man. He felt that all the world must join the Marean church or be lost to depravity. He declared war on Mylana for this very reason.
The Marean Theocracy, under the new rule of High Priest Rhirid Dekha, marched towards the eastern lands of Mylana. The Marean Church had zero tolerance for heretics and Rhirid Dekha felt that the theocracy of Mylana called the absoluteness of Magnumare into question. And thus began the Batryan Holy War.
The Marean army marched through Xodon Fort and approached the Elven keep of Felthyr. Sending several regiments of soldiers through the mountains and around the keep, Felthyr was successfully surrounded. The siege lasted for three months until the Elves were forced to surrender the keep. The Marean army now had a direct road to the capital of Mylan Dorei.
Sailing over the Sea of Harmony, a small group of specialized Marean soldiers secretly approached the city of Kerengroth. Being the main port city for the Elves, Kerengroth was an incredibly strategic place in the newly forming war. The rape happened in the night. Marean soldiers beached their ships about a mile to the south and entered the city quietly. Over eighty percent of the city’s population was slaughtered within an hour.
The small Marean group moved from Kerengroth towards the city of Fylenelor– the southern entrance to the Mylanan valley. Because of how quickly and quietly the regiment could move, the city had no idea of what was approaching. Additionally, most of the military force had left to defend Mylana Dorei since the Elves knew Felthyr would not last much longer. Once again, the city was taken overnight in a bloody slaughter.
The bloodiest and final battle of the war. The army stationed at Felthyr and the regiment stationed at Fylenelor marched on the Elven capital. The Marean army broke through the walls of the city within an hour and began slaughtering Elves indiscriminately– with the aim of burning the temple in the center of the metropolis. A small group of soldiers made their way directly to the temple and set it ablaze. As the flames began to tower into the sky, every Elven man and woman took up arms against the enemy. As this temple is integral to the Elven way of life, the Marean army could never have predicted the force and fury that was approaching from the citizens of Mylana Dorei. The army was pushed back out of the city and demoralized to the point of surrender.
After surrendering to the Elves, High Priest Rhirid Dekha was forced to comply with Elven wishes. A document was formed and titled The Mylana Treatise. It was a promise that Mylana would receive no tax on trade ships on the Sea of Harmony and would have Marean support if ever their safety was called into question.
Igam Stursk was a timid ruler. Afraid to make any decision that might upset anyone. The nation's progression screeched to a halt as barely any legislation was passed during his rule.
Sorcean Fostidrul was a cruel man. After coming into power, he made it abundantly clear that he would not be as timid as his predecessor. He pushed strict religious practice into law and reinstated the zero tolerance policy for heretics that Rhirid Dekha had originally instated. His cruel and oppressive actions directly caused the Batryan revolution and the fall of the Marean Theocracy.
The tensions between the Marean Theocracy and the Batryan people had reached a breaking point. The religious oppression and unfair legislating could continue no more. Thus, a bloody revolution ensued.
The Alturiak Uprising began with a protest turned skirmish in Trimont. Led by Urcerth Batsk, The Pagan Warrior. He believed the teachings were merely a way to hold on to control of the lower class. He led a protest at the courtyard of the main cathedral. They were quickly snuffed out. All of them were executed and some who were only bystanders were too. The High priest at the time, Sorcean Fostidrul, oversaw the executions personally and gave a most terrifying speech to the people of Trimont. Despite his best efforts, the High Priest failed to capture all of the protestors. A small group of 4 escaped and spread to the surrounding villages and gathered a group of revolutionists. Nam Vuvidz, Ulcarth Grandbone, Viu Diaong, and Nhashur Batrya. They convened in the woods south of Trimont.
After nearly a year, they began an invasion of the capitol. They broke through the walls in a miraculous fashion and set up in the expansive sewers of the city. Here they hired a group of assassins to kill the High Priest led by Nhashur, an experienced mercenary. At the same time the assassins departed on their mission, the High Priest sent a similar team of his best assassins to do the same to the 4 revolutionary leaders. Ironically, both endeavors succeeded but since Nhashur led the assassins personally, he was now the only surviving leader of both sides. He held the High Priest as a hostage in order to persuade the Marean Disciples. He forced the High Priest to denounce his faith in a public setting and then executed him– marking the genesis of the Kingdom of Batrya.
Nhashur Batrya was immediately declared king of the Batryans. News of the Monarchy spread through the land and all were overjoyed to hear that the horrible theocratic regime had fallen. All welcomed this liberator as a hero and pledged fielty-- except the remaining pirates of the theocracy. Thrown out of their posts and driven out of towns, they sought refuge in the only place they could find-- The Usurper's Cage (more commonly known as the Sea of Harmony). Bitterness between the pirates and the crown lingers even today.
The first king of the Kingdom of Batrya, Nhashur Batrya was ill-equipped to rule. The only notable legislation of his was the outlaw of Marean religious activity.
The son of King Nhashur, Grath Batrya was responsible for bolstering the naval power of the Kingdom. Improving cannon technology and increasing the number of ships, the Batryan Navy became the terror of the seas.
The son of King Grath, Jourlaut Batrya had the longest rule of any Batryan king in history. He was a good ruler-- improving diplomatic ties with Nivias, Apreora and Mylana. The nation prospered under his rule.
After being deprived of his time on the throne because of his father's long life, Urtair Batrya became a very bitter man. When he came to power he felt that he needed to make up for his lost time and accomplish something grand-- which led him to declare war on Apreora.
In the year 409, the Kingdom of Batrya initiated the Batryan-Apreoran War. Led by King Urtair, The Jealous, Batrya attempted to invade The Apreoran Republic with the intent conquer the southern regions of Evadere and establish a kingdom that would last for aeons. The war raged from 409-415 PA and ended with the death of King Urtair, The Jealous—who was the sole supporter and initiater of the war. Animosity between the nations still lingers from the bloodiest war Evadere has ever seen.
After the bloodiest war in the history of Evadere, Batrya was forced to and sign the Apreoran Treatise—which promised that Batrya would lower the taxation on Apreoran trade ships traveling on The Sea of Harmony and to never raise taxation without direct consent from the Apreoran government.
The current king of Batrya. Romuth Batrya has struggled to repair the damage that his father Urtair caused to diplomatic relations with Apreora. He did, however, legalize the practice of the Marean religion again.
