Mycota
Mycota, also known colloquially as Funghars or Shroomlings, are a race of humanoid fungus that tend to live in t
ribal communities in warm wet climates such as rainforests and caves.
Names: Shuuma, Sarcoscypha, Myxomy, Holom, Amanita, Sorrel
Standard Racial Traits
Ability Score Modifiers: Mycota have bodies which are constantly repairing themselves, and possess a strange and inscrutable sapience that makes them difficult to understand by others. They gain a +2 bonus to Constitution and Wisdom, but suffer a -2 penalty to Charisma. Type: Mycota are plants with the Mycota subtype, but lack the immunities to mind-affecting effects, paralysis, polymorph, and stunning that the plant type usually grants. Size: Mycota are Medium creatures and thus receive no bonuses or penalties due to their size. Base Speed: Mycota have a base speed of 20 feet, but their speed is not modified by armor or encumbrance. Languages: Mycota begin play speaking Common and Sylvan. Mycota with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Terran, Elven, Gnome, Boggard, or TreantSenses Traits
- Darkvision: Mycota can see in the dark up to 60 feet.
- Low-Light Vision: Mycota can see twice as far as humans under conditions of dim light.
Other Traits
- Woodland Stride: Mycota can move through any sort of undergrowth (such as natural thorns, briars, overgrown areas, and similar terrain) at their normal speed and without taking damage or suffering any other impairment. Such areas that are enchanted or magically manipulated to impede motion still affect them, however.
- Fungus Traits: Mycota are neither truly plants nor animals, and thus have very different biological needs. Mycota breathe oxygen, and eat by slowly digesting nearly any organic matter. However, Mycota do not sleep, and are immune to any sleep effects, however they do require a period of inactivity lasting at least four hours during the night in which they place down roots into the earth to absorb nutrients and moonlight. Furthermore, due to their unique biology, Mycota are immune to poison excpet those that specifically target Mycota.
- Spore Burst: Once per day as a standard action, a Mycota may emit a cloud of spores around themself in a 5 foot radius centered on their square. Immediately, and each subsequent round on the beginning of the Mycota's turn, each creature within the radius must make a Fortitude save or become Nauseated for one round. The DC for this save is equal to 10 + the Mycota's Constitution modifier + half their character level. This creature, as well as Plant creatures and creatures that do not breathe are immune to this effect. This spore cloud lasts for a number of rounds equal to this creature's character level. This is a poison effect.
- Shroom Talk: Mycota can speak with normal fungi as if subject to a continual speak with plants spell.
- Herbiculture: Mycota rely heavily on the land and pass down these traditions through their culture. Mycota gain a +2 bonus on Craft (Alchemy) and Profession (Herbalism)
Alternate Racial Traits
- Toxic: Some Mycota have evolved a bright red pattern with white spots, indicating that they are toxic, though not all creatures are able to heed this warning. If a creature uses a Swallow Whole ability against a Mycota with this trait, it must make a Fortitude save each round against a DC equal to 10 + the Mycota's Constitution modifier + half their character level. On a failure, the creature regurgitates the Mycota and is Nauseated for 1d3 rounds. Additionally, if a Mycota with this trait is hit by a creature's Bite attack, that creature must make a similar save or be Nauseated for 1 round. Creatures who are immune to Poison are immune to this effect. This trait replaces Spore Burst.
- Fungal Immortality: Some Mycota families have developed an alternate method of reproduction. When a Mycota with this trait dies, it returns to life after 6d6 days as per reincarnate, though it always comes back as a Mycota with the same racial traits and with only partial memories of its previous life. If the Mycota's character level was 4th or lower at time of death, it instead returns to life as a completely new individual. In order for this ability to work, the Mycota must have at least half of its body intact and be buried in the earth for the duration of the wait period. If the Mycota died due to fire damage, cold damage, disease, disintegrate, or is otherwise unable to meet the reincarnation conditions after the wait period, it dies permanently. This trait replaces Spore Burst.
- Phosphorescent: Some Mycota possess a natural chemical reaction in their bodies that allows them to glow with a soft blue light. Once per day, a Mycota with this trait may cast light on their body, using their character level in place of their caster level. As a result, this has diminished their ability to see without light. This trait replaces Darkvision and Low-Light Vision.
- Natural Alchemy: Mycota are often avid herbalists, and some have even discovered how to create certain chemicals within their own bodies. Once per day, a Mycota with this trait can spend a full-round action to produce a small fruit that when eaten by any creature as a standard action has one of the effects of a polypurpose panacea, decided by the Mycota at time of production. If the fruit is not eaten after one minute, it loses its potency and rots. The Mycota can use this ability an additional time per day at 5th level and every 5 levels thereafter. This trait replaces Spore Burst.
- Flycatcher: Some Mycota have formed a symbiosis with insects, spiders, and other arthropods. These Mycota have developed a special type of head that is open on top to reveal a sticky nectar that attracts such bugs but does not harm them. These Mycota can improve the attitude of these creatures, as per the Druid's wild empathy, except this only works for these creatures and uses the Mycota's character level in place of their Druid level and Wisdom modifier in place of their Charisma modifier. Additionally, once per day the Mycota may cast speak with animals on themselves using their character level in place of their caster level and only affecting such creatures. This trait replaces Spore Burst and Shroom Talk.

Racial Feats
A Mycota may take the following feats if they meet the prerequisites.Basic Information
Anatomy
Mycota take on a variety of morphs, though generally they are roughly humanoid in shape, with thick legs and bodies, and heads bearing mushroom caps. Their faces bear beady black eyes, slit nostrils and ear holes, and a toothless mouth filled with slightly corrosive saliva. Their bodies are hardy, and are constantly regenerating as long as the Mycota continue to digest organic matter, of which they can eat practically any with no ill effects. Their metabolism is slow, however, which causes Mycota to be slow-moving compared to humans.
Genetics and Reproduction
Mycota are sexless, and typically reproduce by becoming fertilized by the spores of another Mycota. If a Mycota fails the Fortitude save of another Mycota's Spore Burst or receives spores willingly from another Mycota, instead of becoming Nauseated it becomes fertilized, and a fetal Mycota begins growing somewhere on this creature's body. A Mycota can choose to fail this Fortitude save. After 3d6 x 2 days, the fetal Mycota is born, and detaches from this creature's body.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Mycota typically live in tribes along with others of similar morphs. These tribes can number from a single family up to a small town's worth of individuals. Mycota tend not to build structures, as they prefer to spend time under the moon and with soil under their feet. As such, many Mycota make good Druids or Clerics, practicing their mystical ways among their tribe. When humans or other peoples make contact with the Mycota, they have noted that the fungal folk seem unnaturally friendly towards outsiders, but their mannerisms and speech are difficult to understand. Furthermore, any attempts to colonize or otherwise modernize the Mycota peoples have been firmly declined. Thus, they are left to their own ways.
Mycota of Eumaea
On Eumaea, Mycota are indigenous to the Ihlashana Jungle on the continent of Dunia, living in various tribes throughout the rainforest. However, traveling Mycota have expanded to other regions and continents. They typically prefer climates akin to their native land, warm and wet, with plenty of trees and other plant life. Mycota tend to avoid civilization, so they are more likely to seek out quiet isolation in the wilderness.
