Fire Magic

Fire magic is one of the more dangerous kinds of magic. It revolves around destruction and raging power. Arson, the Ancient of Fire, was often quoted as saying that people and dragons of fire magic tend to get lost in their magic. As Arson put it, they become the fire. Fire magic must be controlled. If not, there can be deadly consequences.

Specialization/Unique Traits

When it comes to battle, fire magic tends to be used in the same way as other magic types. In these instances, fire magic, like all kinds, is used as a physical force. Imagine waves, fireballs, beams, things bursting into flame without being touched. These are the kinds of things that a fire mage would do during combat. Unfortunately, because fire magi no longer exist, these kinds of fighting techniques have been largely forgotten, remembered only by ancient dragons, writings, and artwork.

One trait that is unique to fire magic, however, is the ability to produce light and heat for prolonged periods of time. Again, in the time of human magi, a fire mage could create a fire in their hand, either large or small. These fires could serve as weapons or as sources of the aforementioned light and heat. Fire magi could warm themselves or others with a touch or light up a room with a single finger.

Another trait of fire magic is that, when using fire magic, one wouldn't typically reach for it in the world around them. Instead, a fire mage is able to create fire magic within themselves and expel it into the world in glorious fashion. This does mean, however, that fire magi would become drained after a period of time and would find themselves unable to perform magic.

Related Personality Traits

Fire magic (and the month of Arsona) is often associated with a number of personality traits. The most obvious is that of being easily angered. It was something that Arson was known for in his time and has appeared in a large majority of his dragonmagi. This trait is associated with the term "bursting into flames," as that is often how it appears to outsiders when one suddenly becomes angry.

Furthermore, fire magic is related with the trait of "hot blood." Hot blood is when a person seeks out fights or, in extreme cases, war. People who are hot blooded tend to not care about the reason for the fight as much as they care about the prospective glory that it offers. Hot blooded individuals are often associated with fire magic, especially because Arson was the most hot blooded figure in history.

On a more positive note, fire magic is also associated with passion, strong desires, and determination. This was another trait that appeared in Arson and his dragonmagi. When a person is dedicated and unwavering on a stance or a goal, it is often associated with fire magic. On a related note, perseverance is often considered another trait of fire magic.

Dragonmage Traits

When choosing dragonmagi, Arson always had a certain couple of personality traits in mind. First and most obviously, they had to be of fire magic. Secondly, Arson sought out those who were determined or passionate, able to push through the challenges that the title of Dragonmage carried. Thirdly, he always chose people who were protective, or driven by some kind of personal or virtuous motivation. Finally, however, he chose people who were able to control their magic. Arson chose people who wouldn't let the anger of their magic, or "the fire," as he called it, take over their decisions. He wanted a dragonmage who would make smart, educated, and wise choices, people who would find solutions other than blasting the problem with a fireball or two.

Related Emotions

Fire magic is most often associated with anger. It is well documented that the use of fire magic revolves largely around anger. When fire magic is used, the mage or dragon calls upon hatred, anger, passion, strong emotions that can easily have the word "burning" placed before them. Arson was very easily angered in his time and, though there were many other traits to the Ancient, that remains the one that is most often thought of when his name is brought up.

Related Locations

The most prominent places when it comes to fire magic are mostly located on the continent of Jicreon. Jicreon itself is supposedly infused with fire magic from the amount of fire dragons that lived there in early times. Mount Leiver, the volcano Arson called his home, is located on the continent, and has now been turned into the Museum of Arson. Just a few miles from the volcano is the Temple of Arson of the Fire Magic, a hotbed of fire magic.

Modern Day Uses

Today, fire magic isn't so much used in combat. In the times before modern warfare, fire magi often participated in war, especially those of hot blood. However, without fire magi, fire magic only really appears in the Dragon Riders. Even then, the use of fire dragons tends to be rare, and in the instances it they are used, their magic tends to be highly controlled. A raging fire within a forest or over a battlefield tends to become the problem of both competing sides.

These days, fire magic is more often used for lighting and heating. Fire dragons will often form pacts with either companies, settlements, or various towns, to produce lights and heaters from magic. This is the most common use for fire magic in modern times. However, it is also used in things like demolition and to incinerate garbage.

Holidays

Fire is first in the Cycle of Magic. The first month in the Calendar of the Ancients is Arsona, named for the Ancient of Fire, and is the strongest month of the year for fire magic. This entire month is meant as a time to celebrate fire and its magic. The celebrations culminate with Arson's Day, on the last Fireday of the month. On this day, cities and towns gather for various festivities celebrating either Arson or his magic. On this day, people will often be wearing costumes of previous fire dragonmagi. Red clothing is customary, but black, orange, or yellow are also accepted.

Author's Notes

Something you'll probably notice as you explore this world is that some articles are better written than others. This is because I'm still a developing writer, so the later articles will be done better because I am, in fact, a better writer upon making them. You'll have to forgive the older articles and their writing style. I do plan on going back and revising them! ...Eventually. Truth be told, at this point I'm more focused on understanding my world than I am with making amazing articles. Thanks for being patient/understanding/tolerant of me and my flaws!
