The Ospine

Dragons of Ospid

The Ospine are the dragons born of the island of Ospid, formally part of the Pid Isles. Only around sixty percent of all Ospine actually reside on Ospid, whilst the remaining number have chosen to relocate to the larger, more prosperous islands of Tenepid and Caspid, or even to the main continent of Caia. Due to this, the community actually living on Ospid is in decline. Whilst the island currently has a population of more than one thousand people, this is on a downward trend. The average age of the island's inhabitants is also climbing each year, as more than sixty percent of young people leave the island once they become adults.   Ninety percent of those on Ospid live in the coastal settlement of Boquīlle, located on the delta of the Sānge river. The rest live in small mining hamlets or multi-family farmsteads. They are a hardworking folk who rely on a strong sense of community and shared values to prop up their society, especially during trying times. This has been challenged in recent years by the growing migration of the younger generations.

It sounds like the younger Ospine don’t believe they can thrive on Ospid; what factors created that situation?

I think because the island is so small and the way of life is rather slow and traditional, and the bigger islands represent excitement and progress to the younger generation.

It would be interesting to see how a region like this would handle the demographic changing. Would they fight against it or would they accept their fate?

I'm sure every week at like the town hall there is a 'how do we stop our youth from leaving' discussion that doesn't go anywhere.
