Personal history

Markus was a renowned warrior, who served on the Valerian front lines for over a decade. He was given promotion after promotion during his service and eventually became a Captain, three years before his retirement in 1634AL. He had fought many battles during the war and, as a captain, he was often given tasks suiting his aggressive nature in battle. He lead a unit of soldiers that would patrol the Saltmarsh wall and respond to attacks wherever they occurred. This unit consisted of a group of Dragonborn that had become like brothers to him during their arduous training.   Mission after mission, the numbers of his unit dwindled. Killed in ambushes, killed covering an escape, killed after being captured behind enemy lines. Whatever it was, the unit eventually was all but lost. The few that remained promised to stay with Markus until the bitter end and so he took a proposal to the High Lord; Markus, and what was left of his unit, would become a strike-force, hunting down and avenging those who had slain their brothers-in-arms. The High Lord agreed but warned them that they would likely all die before their mission was complete. Aware of this, they began the hunt. This is when Markus earned his name, "The Thunderous Vengeance", which spread in rumours among the guard. It was said the crash of his wrathful vengeance could be heard miles away as he slew those who had butchered his unit.   True to the High Lord's warning, the rest of his unit died in battle during this hunt. Markus, however, pushed on, swearing to avenge every one of them. His final target, the commander of an enormous force, tore a wound open on his face, blinding his right eye before Markus finally landed the killing blow. After this long, and arduous journey of loss, he returned to Saltmarsh, with a necklace of his brothers' teeth around his neck to remind him of his years in the war.   He has since moved to Lemuria to enjoy the good company of the city and relax. He opened a small tavern for weary, lone travellers who needed rest just as he did. No questions would be asked. It was originally for those who had no more company to travel with, but it ended up becoming quite popular, due to its position and is now a common place of rest for many.
